You can use thread to patch over tears and get it as close to it's original form as possible, or you can use it to make creative patches over torn fabric.

( which is what he's getting at here. damian picks up a scrap himself, threading his own needle with a soft pink, thicker thread. when he begins to work to cover the rip, he tilts his piece of fabric forward so accelerator can more clearly watch what he's doing: rather than make small stitches, like one would generally anticipate when patching holes, he's leaving the thread loose enough to create flower petals to cover the rip. )
