[If anyone hasn’t seen Jayce within the past few months, he looks quite a bit different. His hair is longer, he has a beard, and doesn’t seem quite as full of energy as he might have in the past. He’s also not dressing as uptight as he used to— a lack of vest and tie, exchanged for just a simple button up shirt. The background is once again S.T.A.R. labs, although he’s not trying to hide it this time.]

Hey, Etrayans. For those new to this whole thing, welcome. I’m Jayce Talis. For those who came from Pollux, also welcome. I can say with full confidence Aurora’s better at this than Castor is.

[Aurora probably won’t appreciate that comment, but whatever. He stands by it. But that aside…]

I’m putting out a call for fellow scientists to come together and work collaboratively on research involving what we know about Etraya, and more importantly, what we don’t know. This could also include strategizing developments to improve our lives here, and solving problems with our understanding in our respective fields. 


Something that we have here that we lack in our own worlds is the variety of perspectives. In my world, some of our greatest achievements are beyond what’s possible in other worlds, but we don’t have plastics or microwaves. Think of this as an opportunity for all of us to better ourselves, in this… transient existence we’re all stuck in.

Meetings would be here, in S.T.A.R. labs, every Thursday morning. No requirements if you want to participate other than an open mind, and a good attitude. No shooting down suggestions without hearing things out, and if you happen to have some sort of grudge against any of the participants here, you leave it at the door when you come in, or you’re not coming in.

Curiosity itself is not nonsensical in nature, and while immeasurable, suffers in the hands of those who would waste inquiries on avenues with no outcomes. I can save you the trouble of wondering after the merits of a toast sandwich, for example, and tell you that it is the illusion of satisfaction, which, coincidentally, is precisely the fault in your approach.

"Avenues with no outcome" is a position of bias, subjective. Given that you're also assigning that same subjective negative bias to someone else's emotions, I can't say I'm surprised your entire methodology revolves around exclusion.

There's no one there to run it, and Viktor and I have been the sole maintainers of it for months. Your confidence in your own incorrect assumptions is astounding.

In a way it is. We’re just choosing to do self-studies. This could be productive.

Are you looking for objectivity? Perhaps you should not let your own emotions cloud your judgement. Curiosity, for its own sake, is dangerous. If you insist on unchecked opinions and inclusivity, you are inviting a sink on limited resources and even more limited time. We do not have the luxury of fantasies or dreams or wishes. Each second wasted on the pursuit of a whim, however tempting, is still a second wasted.

It is not bias, it is practicality.

Not all of us have had the world offered to us on gold platters. Some have fought for each discovery and advancement, bought for prices you will not ever be able to understand.

It is good to know you are just as overly sensitive. Does every joke offend you so quickly?

My emotions inform my judgement. As far as we know, resources and time are limited only by our own imagination. Limiting ourselves to fake boundaries is self-sabotage for the sake of what? Guaranteeing underperformance? I should have realized you liked to cut yourself off at the kneecaps.

All you’re doing is listing the reasons why my inclusivity (as you say with a derogatory tone) is vital. Not everyone was offered what I got, and I know this. No one should have to fight as hard as any Zaunite had to for acknowledgment. It should have been easier and freer to recognize talent where it was, and that includes indulging the occasional fantasy or whim. I won’t exclude anyone who has reasonable ideas, no matter how “small” or “pointless” you think them.

[Not going to comment on the sensitive comment. It’s not the first, second, or even third time he’s been accused of it.]
