It's a fairly new phenomenon but yeah. Anyone born with a shard... that's what we call the things that grant humans powers... will pass it onto their offspring, generally slightly evolved.

How the powers themselves manifest largely depends on the individual and the event that made those powers awaken - usually caused by moments of extreme stress.
