CHIRPER

⏵ CHIRPER ⏴
Welcome to our bi-monthly CHIRPER post!

There are a few ways characters can interact with this:
  • Characters receive a notification to please fill out the form, which is fully optional.
  • When forms are not filled out, they are filled out by the companion bots of Etraya! This means that while the character themself is not choosing to play with CHIRPER, their player still can.
  • Other characters can be prompted to fill out their friends' profiles for them.
  • Alternatively, they choose not to fill out the form, and it remains unfilled!

This is just a fun little way of expanding CR. For those who do post a top level, CHIRPER toplevels are worth five extra points regardless of if they are put up willingly by the character themselves. These five extra points do apply to the 25 maximum per month.

Once characters' profiles are up, other characters will be given the option of giving them a "like" or a "dislike" (using ✓ and ✕ symbols in the subject line of the comment) but they can also provide an answer as to why they gave that answer! Or just respond to the contents of their profile, +1ing the fact that if Barnabas were to get laid more often, maybe he would be less of a sourpuss.

No, sorry, I can't do magic. So there's you, and two others? Is one of the others you're thinking of called Enki? He's the one I know.
snapp_crackle: (??)

If Quentin introduces himself later I guess Popp forgets his name

[personal profile] snapp_crackle 2025-02-25 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't catch his name. Older than me, light hair. Kinda sad and floppy, on a first impression.

You sound like you're interested in magic, are you just not good at it or what?

...Still could be Enki.

[What's with that being a magic user thing?]

I'm not a mage.
snapp_crackle: (just as keikaku)

I'll keep an eye out for more sad guys.

Most people aren't. What's your usual thing, then?

[personal profile] hexcope 2025-03-02 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a handful.

Science with magic. I can't use the arcane like a mage could, but I've found a way to harness it though devices. Like your staff!
snapp_crackle: (mirth! levity!)

You'd know, Mr. Interests: cry

[personal profile] snapp_crackle 2025-03-02 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)

Like the magic bullet gun Master Avan made! One of his other students couldn't use attack spells on her own, so someone else would charge the cylinders ahead of time and she'd fire them off just like casting!

It also worked with healing spells.

😭😭😭

[personal profile] hexcope 2025-03-02 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Just like that! But not a gun.

Can you do healing spells too? What does that entail?
snapp_crackle: (/:)

[personal profile] snapp_crackle 2025-03-02 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It's actually really hard for someone to be any good at the kinds of spells Mages use and the kinds that Priests do - healing, wind, barriers.

I can't do any of that, which is completely fine.

[personal profile] hexcope 2025-03-02 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Just fire and ice plus maybe lightning. Got it. And you use the staff as a conduit- could you do it without it?
snapp_crackle: (:))

[personal profile] snapp_crackle 2025-03-02 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Fire and ice. I can do storms, but what the lightning does once it's here is up to the lightning.

The staff's a good focus, but I can cast directly out of my hands, yeah.

So you're more... bringing it in, not really commanding it. That's still pretty useful.

Fascinating. If you're ever up to showing it off, can I watch?
snapp_crackle: (mirth! levity!)

[personal profile] snapp_crackle 2025-03-03 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Sure thing! Where's a good place around here to practice? Any place by the water works for just about everything else I use, but it's not a good mix with lightning.
hexcope: (pic#17573094)

[personal profile] hexcope 2025-03-03 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
There's a lot of rivers around here, we could go there? Maybe we don't touch the lightning magic, for now.
snapp_crackle: (just as keikaku)

The one between the apartments and Bramble Valley looks closest. I'll head out there now and you can catch up whenever.
hexcope: (pic#17569361)

[personal profile] hexcope 2025-03-03 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
It's not going to be a danger to the apartments, right?
snapp_crackle: (/:)

[personal profile] snapp_crackle 2025-03-03 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Climatize is the one exception. My aim's perfect.

Okay, okay. I'll see you soon!

-> In person

[ The last thing Popp wants to do is run out of power in the middle of showing off - he will admit it to himself, he loves showing off - in front of some sort of expert otherwordly artificer who might be as good as Master Avan. It's a mistake he's made enough not to repeat... unless he's angry or scared or just really wants to use a lot of powerful spells back to back, of course.

So what he's up to is less formal training and more messing around, tossing Frizz spells in an arc into the river and then trying to cast another one with the opposite hand fast enough to hit the first one before it sinks. It could be going better, it could be going worse. But the flashy basic fireballs should make him easy to find. ]

I LOST THIS NOTIF...

[personal profile] hexcope 2025-03-09 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's easy to spot from even some distance away, the bright flash of magic catches Jayce's eye as he approaches and he picks up into a light jog to get closer.]

Wow!

[He's not even fully closed the distance before he shouts that, catching up and watching as the flares of fire magic arc into the air and then dim and fade into the water.]

That's amazing!
snapp_crackle: (mirth! levity!)

so it often goes with notifs!

[personal profile] snapp_crackle 2025-03-10 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Wow, this guy's built more like a warrior than he was expecting. ]

Right? I'm making it look easy, but it's actually pretty difficult to use both hands like this!

[ Popp's not enough of a nerd to start spouting off about magic circulation techniques unprompted. ]
hexcope: (pic#17573094)

[personal profile] hexcope 2025-03-14 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
So it's easier to use just one hand? Maybe your dominant hand? Would using the staff would make it easier as well? Do you know if it feels stronger here than anywhere else? I've been told there leylines near the rivers.

[He's already launching into the questions, so if prompting is what Popp needs, Jayce has that covered. He's also pulling out his journal and touching his pen to his tongue to wet it.]

Do you mind if I take notes?
snapp_crackle: (just as keikaku)

[personal profile] snapp_crackle 2025-03-14 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, go ahead! So many questions, though... Sheesh, I'm not going to vanish in the next five minutes!

[ Popp might be complaining but he's also happy about being an authority on the subject. He sounds a little lighter as he gets into it, because he's trying to copy the way his tutor used to speak. ]

Using both hands at the same time is the easiest way, actually. Beginners do it a lot.

[ He laces his fingers together and sends off a small Frizz spell larger than the ones he's been tossing around. ]

See? I'm channeling it though both arms, but there's only one exit point, so it's more stable. A staff works, uh, pretty much the same way, there's a long part to channel extra energy and a gem to cast through.
