[He was still learning this whole earpiece device, so excuse him for it turning on and there sound like someone was fiddling with the setting. Where was his far more technologically inclined smart kid to help him? Ah well, he did realize it was on sooner than later thankfully.]

Uh... sorry? [Chagrin tone.] I was curious about an idea, since I still consider myself fairly new to this situation. Here's hoping you all with entertain me here:

What does a sense of community mean or feel like to you?

[A beat of a pause.]

Is it friends and family? Is it gathering places and camaraderie? How about a sense of people uniting for a specific purpose in mind? Everyone here has their own agendas and their own interests, and, with no overt crime present at the moment, it's curious to me how we could build a sense of community around these parts.

Community is where people gather. Perhaps not with the same exact goal, but loosely the same philosophy will do. Ideally with everyone helping one another. The people needn’t be blood relatives… or even friends precisely.

But relating to one another enough to put the little things aside and build something bigger than the individuals. That’s community to me.

Oh go on, why don't you tell them all what that kind of thing means to you, while you're at it? Don't bother with the leading questions if you already know what you want to do.

It is your brothers and you, working in unison to complete the objective. It is knowing that you protect your brother's life, as he protects your own and you both can count on that.

You and I align for the most part. Community is bringing people of all walks of life together to feel safe, thrive and learn about one another. Where I'm from, most people aren't blood related, but we're all people trying to live our lives.

I like the idea of people protecting each other and being able to accomplish goals that improve lives. That doesn't mean there isn't rules or punishment for breaking them, but people should be able to learn from their correction and reintegrate back in to the community.

[His tone cools compared to conversations with other people. It was an immediate change, even if he held himself reserved as much as he could. He wasn't looking for a public scene even if he knew one was imminent.]

Do they all know? I haven't made the rounds to everyone socially yet, but it's on my list.

However, you and I both know community needs to exist for progress to be made. Maybe we can even create something better while we labour in this place.

That sounds very militaristic. Band of brothers and all that. I don't suppose that you spent time within normal living communities, do you?

Of course you’ve always got to have a few jail cells for when things get out of hand, but you always let ‘em out and see if they can’t integrate well enough.

But if you’ve got the community bit figured out, people will champ to be a part of it. But a good community shouldn’t need rules, and if everyone’s needs are met- well. They can’t break too bad of a rule, eh?

Fishing for ideas, or looking for someone whose thoughts align with yours?

We? Please, let's not make something out of nothing. You're looking for ideas from the rest of them, but there is no we in this greater community. You can't hope to link everyone together for...

You and I have very different ideas on that. I don't think a "community" is necessary, after all. Only purpose.

My thoughts exactly. There will always be some on the edge that will cause disruptions because that's the nature of people.

Most of the rules I follow are generally unspoken. Don't give up your own people. Hold the line in a fight. Treat others as you're expecting to be treated.

I disagree. We are all here for the same purpose, and there's not reason we can't form a community around that goal. People helping each other, teaching skills, supporting one another. We are stronger as a group most of the time.

Even with the purpose provided, it will never been good enough for you. You'll consider another path that benefits you and yours only.

No, I never thought your definition was wrong. Just different and there is nothing wrong with different. It's community from your perspective. What else about being in your brotherhood brings you a sense of community?

Sure, there's always the third option.

My people are my community, back home. They work together toward a better future, and that's not easy in our world. Uphill battle, but I imagine it's that shared struggle that allowed them to relate, despite wildly different origins.

we share burdens together grief and loss as well as our victories. With someone beside you, enduring the same, hardship is easier.

A community is... like a spiderweb. Everyone has strands of bonds connecting them to others, a few people or many, positive or negative. And those people have bonds extending out from them, and on and on.

And when something happens in a place like this, and a strand somewhere gets plucked? Everyone feels it, to some degree.

Agreed. You have a similar perspective as those that I used to work with. Hardship brings people together.

Those struggles are aspects that can unite us here. I expect there are many similar stories of community struggles, not the exactly the same but similar enough to allow for commiseration.

I was always told that hardship builds character.

not just hardship that could be needless suffering it must have a purpose or else it is just meaningless pain.

Hmmm, that's a fascinating analogy. I hadn't thought about it like that before, but I have to say that I agree in part. Community does have a certain interconnectedness.

Have you lost people here that you've felt their loss?

Why else? Curiosity. And maybe a little bored. You haven't taken me back to the arcade for some fun, so this is my next best option, champ.
