A sleepover camp, I can't believe it. The scale of this cosmic joke is off the charts.

While I trek over to Ochreward to make sure it isn't swampland, JUST IN CASE, it might be a good time to bring up

BOOK CLUB!

That's right, I said I'd update everybody interested when Aurora posted about the next mission, and here we go!

If you missed the social media post llllllast month due to... not being here before that, there is no reading theme, we're just talking about favorite books (or stories) to get a feel for if we even WANT themes for future meetups.

The location is going to be at Robin Deli (Charronway). Today being Saturday, let's plan to meet on Monday afternoon? That way, everyone can get ready for the missions upcoming. (Heather, if that's too short-notice, don't worry about the platter.)

That should be it. Please feel free to drop questions here--regarding book club, or I guess summer camp since I spent like five years in one.... so yeah, looking forward to meeting up! Catch you all later.

If I may ask, are there any requisites to attend your meeting?

The only requisites are

1. to select a book you recall enjoying (fiction preferred but non-fiction/informational is fine). It does not have be present in Etraya itself; just needs to be something you have read before.

2. to consider how you would briefly describe the plot/major points of the text and reasons why you would recommend others read it. Or why you wouldn't--some books are suitable for smaller audiences, and that's alright.

3. to consider sharing the above information with the group when we meet, if you would like

There is no cost of entry as we are meeting in a small restaurant shop space.

Is THAT why the blue trolley was out of order? I'd only just heard that bird was pestering one of the other new arrivals, not that it was wrecking things. It must really be strong!

Most likely it was provoked, though I could not speak to the exact circumstances in this case. Never approach a red chocobo, lest it summon meteors.

I'm hoping it will be. To be honest, I aim to set them before missions for particular reasons.

It will depend on if how voracious a reading pace the members have, and if we have book access if we're away, whether it'll be every off-month. Some texts need more time committed to them to get through, some people might need more reading and processing time than a month.

Not to mention if upcoming missions need those five days preparation.

Same. Maybe for the first couple of meetings, we should do some easy topics. Give people time to adjust. And then see how it goes from there depending on the missions

People talk about books? Isn't that just telling stories?

Sharing stories is acceptable! Written texts are not a thing for some Etrayans, I realize; "book club" is in no way meant to exclude from oral storytelling traditions.

in general, for book club, participants are either:
persuading people to read this book they liked (or critiquing one they didn't)
or, if everyone agrees to read the same book, discussing it together. Digging into the details of the author's choices in writing.

We're not doing the second one this time. Or for a while. Happy to clarify more if needed.

We haven't assigned any reading this time--we're each sharing about one of our favorites we've read before. Even if they're not here, if you can recall what they're about and what you liked about it, it's good.

Most of the stories I know are about real people. I grew up listening to my dad tell me about all of their adventures.

They must have been instructive! You can judge once you are there if you would like to share one. And given the people who have shown interest, I trust there will be plenty of ideas for books to look up in the future.

1. Some snacks would be good! Heather is also attending and has kindly offered a sub platter, so maybe sweets?
