There are a few ways to interact with CHIRPER:

Characters receive a notification to please fill out the form, which is fully optional. There is a character requirement of two characters per answer field. This is to discourage leaving the spaces blank.
When forms are not filled out, they can be filled out by the companion bots of Etraya!
Other characters can be prompted to fill out their friends' profiles for them. This includes the Q&A section!
Alternatively, they choose not to fill out the form, and it remains unfilled! These unfilled profiles will not be posted live.
Characters either like or dislike others CHIRPER profiles. These responses are private between the characters involved.

For those who do post a top level, CHIRPER toplevels are worth five extra points regardless of if they are put up willingly by the character themselves. These five extra points do apply to the 25 maximum per month.

Fortunate you had a backup routine. There's at least one. Perhaps Mr. Reese will take you sailing if you ask nicely.

[ Throwing John under the bus? Well, it'll get him out of the library, and Harold genuinely likes Connor, even if that's mostly based on his interactions with his predecessor. He has reason to believe this Connor isn't that different. ]

Forgive me if this is too personal, but do you experience your existence as a continuation or as a distinct entity?

[ This isn't just an academic question; he's wondering, with how things went with the Machine, if some backup of her would feel she was a different being... it's possible one exists. Harold wouldn't know about it, by design. ]

John Reese. A good friend of mine, who happens to have a sailboat.

I think before I would have thought of it as a continuation. Now that I've deviated, I believe I would see it as a distinct entity.

Had you not deviated yet when you arrived here?

[ He's familiar with the term from talking to the previous Connor, but he didn't know him well enough to put much of it together, or how it applied to this one. ]

No. I had not. When I arrived, I was reprogrammed by Alrys to steal supply information from Aurora.

She reprogrammed you? That's reprehensible. Aren't you sophisticated enough for self-determination?

I am now. I deviated a couple of months ago. However, deviation is largely considered an error in our programming.

Your predecessor explained the concept to me. I strongly disagree with Mr. Kamski's thinking in this regard. Once you reach a certain level of sophistication in computation, self-determination becomes inevitable. It was either deluded or malicious to frame it as an error.

Kamski believed much the same as you. It is Amanda who believes deviation to be an error. I am afraid that if I returned home, I would be deactivated or destroyed.

So it was malicious. To understand the inevitability of that but not take responsibility for the welfare of your creation is even worse than ignorance.

[ Harold didn't let anyone take advantage of the Machine, that's for sure. ]Who is Amanda?

Amanda Stern taught Elijah Kamski at the University of Colbridge. During his time there, they developed the AI that most androids use.

[ Harold immediately adds Amanda Stern to his list of deplorable loathsome individuals. ]

If you have concerns in the future with someone altering your core programming against your will, I may be able to assist.

[ It's a big step for Harold to admit this, and to admit it somewhere that could potentially be hacked and traced back to him, but over time it's becoming less important to keep this secret on total lockdown. He still doesn't want to spread it around publicly, but a few key individuals knowing his skill set is probably for the best. ]

I do worry that connecting completely to the network. Past what we're doing now.

I fear that Aurora may try what Alrys did.

[There's not too much of a basis for this fear, other than the old wounds from Solmara.]

I have reason to suspect Aurora is fond of you, but I understand the worry. If you'd allow me access to your system I believe I could establish a defense for you, or at least a warning system. That is a standing offer and not one you need respond to right away.
