CHIRPER

⏵ CHIRPER ⏴
Welcome to our bi-monthly CHIRPER post!

There are a few ways to interact with CHIRPER:
  • Characters receive a notification to please fill out the form, which is fully optional. There is a character requirement of two characters per answer field. This is to discourage leaving the spaces blank.
  • When forms are not filled out, they can be filled out by the companion bots of Etraya!
  • Other characters can be prompted to fill out their friends' profiles for them. This includes the Q&A section!
  • Alternatively, they choose not to fill out the form, and it remains unfilled! These unfilled profiles will not be posted live.
  • Characters either like or dislike others CHIRPER profiles. These responses are private between the characters involved.

For those who do post a top level, CHIRPER toplevels are worth five extra points regardless of if they are put up willingly by the character themselves. These five extra points do apply to the 25 maximum per month.

Please feel free to switch out any of the Q&A questions with those listed here! We have an example of a filled out form here.

Not really. It's more than most people choose to ignore what they see in order to live a comfortable life.

Some people lack empathy. Others cannot relate and so lack sympathy. While more ascribe blame to the individual when their lives change for the worse. It is what it is.

A cold truth. Do you sympathize with Gregor?

Why would I? His change is literal and represents a failure to adapt. He allowed himself to be manipulated and controlled. I suppose always found myself annoyed by his passive acceptance of his fate.

You think he could've done better despite how repulsed everyone was of him?

I believe he could have stood to care so little about their opinions in order to believe in himself, yes.

Moving forward after his family put him the room but before the apple would've been an interesting twist.

Perhaps. But society had already broken him down long before then. We all like to believe we have agency - but the truth is the freedom of choice? Well, it's not that simple.

Where do you draw the line at something that's just an exercise in futility?

[personal profile] restingstitchface 2025-06-13 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
Why would I draw a line at all? Repetition - even of seemingly pointless stimuli — provides us with data. Futility isn’t the issue; it’s whether even a pointless effort can change something inside you.

It seems like it could change, even if it's subtle and slow going

Only when it can be quantified.

[Measured.]

The mind affects the body. The body affects the mind. Poor physical health affects our agency; our mental capacity to make decisions. Plus some behaviour is so ingrained - so instinctive - that it would be impossible for anybody to affect any change at all. You would never remove the problem. Only change how it is perceived.

I guess that's true. So sometimes it's just a matter of perspective?

Correct. But perspective is informed by multiple factors that vary between individuals. Your read of the story will be different from mine when it comes to the details.
