CHIRPER

⏵ CHIRPER ⏴
Welcome to our bi-monthly CHIRPER post!

There are a few ways to interact with CHIRPER:
  • Characters receive a notification to please fill out the form, which is fully optional. There is a character requirement of two characters per answer field. This is to discourage leaving the spaces blank.
  • When forms are not filled out, they can be filled out by the companion bots of Etraya!
  • Other characters can be prompted to fill out their friends' profiles for them. This includes the Q&A section!
  • Alternatively, they choose not to fill out the form, and it remains unfilled! These unfilled profiles will not be posted live.
  • Characters either like or dislike others CHIRPER profiles. These responses are private between the characters involved.

For those who do post a top level, CHIRPER toplevels are worth five extra points regardless of if they are put up willingly by the character themselves. These five extra points do apply to the 25 maximum per month.

Please feel free to switch out any of the Q&A questions with those listed here! We have an example of a filled out form here.

[!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]

It is? I am? You were?

[for what is the question, he must know]

I am! I'm looking to do a project involving nanotechnology and artificial intelligence. I've been working on coding but I've only got a few months of experience in it now, and you sound like you've had much more than that.

How about you to come to S.T.A.R. labs now, if you have a few hours? Easier to show you my whiteboards than explain it all over text.

Were you planning to extend the same invitation to me?

[ do not coerce an impressionable 18-year-old into helping you without supervision, Jayce. you do not count as supervision ]

[personal profile] hexcope 2025-07-01 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ah, fuck.]

Didn't know you wanted an invite that badly, Harold.

[personal profile] ornithologist 2025-07-01 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
This is no slight to Mr. Parker, but I am reluctant to let a recent high school graduate work on such a delicate project without close supervision.

[personal profile] hexcope 2025-07-01 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, he can play this game.]

Of course. You're free to show up whenever you want, Harold. After all, the door's not locked. Should I let you and Peter decide when you have time to closely supervise him?
ornithologist: (228)

[personal profile] ornithologist 2025-07-01 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm entirely at your disposal, Mr. Talis. For this and for other matters.
hexcope: (pic#17625516)

[personal profile] hexcope 2025-07-01 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
You know how honored I am for you to say such a thing. If you thought I wasn't including you on purpose, that's a lack of clarity on my part. You're always welcome here, Harold.

[Harold, Harold, Harold.]
ornithologist: (057)

[personal profile] ornithologist 2025-07-01 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
In that case, I'll be over shortly. I'd like to see your whiteboards for myself.

[ He really will be. Don't think this is a bluff, Jayce. ]

[personal profile] hexcope 2025-07-01 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, he knows it's not. But he also knows how to cover his tracks. He kept those arcane crystals a secret for years, he can destroy any "dangerous" notes about his work in minutes if he needs to, and recall it later.]

And do you drink tea? I'll put on a kettle.
ornithologist: (222)

[personal profile] ornithologist 2025-07-01 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Frankly, if this gets him to destroy any dangerous notes, that alone will be worth it for Harold. ]

Please do. I feel like all I've done is make tea for other people lately, so this will be a nice reprieve.

[personal profile] hexcope 2025-07-02 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Only counts as truly destroyed if he forgets what he wrote, which he won't. His memory is excellent when it comes to his interests.]

It'll be hot and ready for you when you arrive.

[Hope he isn't expecting an actual reprieve.]

I'll be there ASAP!

[Perhaps surprisingly fast, for how long travel usually takes around here.

It's fine. But before that-]

And I promise I've got more credentials than high school! 😖

[He just. Doesn't explain that he was a superhero who worked with all kinds of crazy shit. It's fine. He'll tell everyone sooner or later. Probably.]

I believe your credentials. But I'm sorry, Peter; unless Harold's around, I guess I'm not allowed to talk shop with you. I didn't know he was your guardian.

[Intentional phrasing? Absolutely. He's not above it.]

Guardian?????????
I don't have a guardian!
I'm a legal adult!

[personal profile] ornithologist 2025-07-07 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I apologize, Mr. Parker. You've unwittingly stepped into a professional disagreement between Mr. Talis and myself.

The project he's mentioned is exceedingly dangerous and untested. It's not my intent to prevent you from doing anything, only to make a point to Mr. Talis that, having failed to address my reservations, I am not sanguine with him recruiting a young adult to assist without informing you of the nature of the project.

[personal profile] keepitgoing 2025-07-07 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I appreciate the worry, Mr. Finch.
But this whole place tends to be kind of dangerous, so I'm not too worried.
And you shouldn't worry too much about me, either. I can handle it.

[... if you knew the shit he had been up to from ages 14 and 18, you'd have a stroke

but he shan't admit it!!!!]

I'm guessing he's gonna explain the nature of the project when I show up?
ornithologist: (228)

[personal profile] ornithologist 2025-07-07 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I find that remarkably unconvincing. That danger is routine does not mean I care less about it.

I couldn't speak for Mr. Talis, but please take precautions suitable for experimental nuclear fission.

Bold assumptions to make about a project you haven't seen yet, and you act like I'd be trapping him into getting involved. That's what the talk was going to be about. Peter's free to disengage entirely, if he was uninterested or didn't trust his personal safety.

I'm not accusing you of trapping anyone. I'm accusing you of being charismatic and passionate about your research, and reminding you that you have a heightened responsibility not to let someone so young get caught up in your enthusiasm when it's this dangerous.

Let's not pretend that either of us at age 18 would have exercised sound judgment if an accomplished mentor offered us a place working on their cutting edge advancement.

When's the cut off for someone actually being old enough to make their own decisions, in your eyes? Twenty, thirty? Never?

I wouldn't have him around for any trials. Just for planning of execution.

[ Funnily enough he'd just had a similar conversation with Accelerator, and they'd both agreed it wasn't a matter of years. He doesn't know Peter much at all, but he can already tell he's not nearly as cynical as Accelerator about scientific advancements. ]

And if he isn't satisfied with that, or learns enough to run his own experiments himself, without telling you?

I don't object to him assisting you, but please for the love of God do not pass on your cavalier attitude about personal safety.

Legal adult or not, Harold feels very strongly about his presence being included. So I'm inviting both of you to visit the lab, at your earliest convenience.

[And if Peter feels like he wants to get involved, well...]
