I understand the cycle of life and death well, but perhaps it wouldn't be a terrible thing to try another's perspective on it. I am told a mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, what is required for a soul?

Train your body to be the sword, your soul the whetstone. Or, if you wish, think of your soul as a sword and your mind, your heart the whetstone. Everything works in harmony and you won't move like the water or the wind until you discover that harmony.

For someone like you, I would start with martial arts. You don't seem the sort to enjoy being still and quiet in a lotus pose.

If enjoyment is not specifically required then they are equal, neither are what I would call 'fun'. Is quietude the superior method?

I personally think some of your training should be enjoyable. That way you are more likely to continue it.

I wouldn't say so. It depends on the person.
