Chirper

CHIRPER

Welcome to our bi-monthly CHIRPER post!

There are a few ways to interact with CHIRPER:
  • Characters receive a notification to please fill out the form, which is fully optional. There is a character requirement of two characters per answer field. This is to discourage leaving the spaces blank.
  • When forms are not filled out, they can be filled out by the companion bots of Etraya, or by other characters on behalf of their friends! This includes the Q&A section.
  • Characters can either like or dislike others' CHIRPER profiles. These responses are public.
  • This is voluntary on an OOC basis; if the character doesn't have a profile completed by themselves or anyone else, nothing shows up for them on CHIRPER.
  • For those who do post a top level, CHIRPER profiles are worth five extra points regardless of if they are put up willingly by the character themselves. These five extra points do apply to the 25 maximum per month.
This month there is a special 👻 SPOOKY SEASON 👻 addition: instead of ✓ or ✕ for like or dislike, it's 🎃 and 💀. Whatever the character has the most votes for shows up appended to their username on the network for the next month, as in, un: aurora 💀.

Please feel free to switch out any of the Q&A questions with those listed here!

**This is a fixed version of the code, sorry about that!

who knows?

maybe because I haven't worn a Halloween costume since I was 9.

[ Through various conversations, Gaia is slowly starting to pick up what Halloween even is. ]

I see. I notice people often talk about costumes that scare. What sort of costume would children wear?

[ She was getting this as a thing adults and older teens did for fun. But dressing kids up as monsters to scare one another? She's not quite there. ]

whatever they want, I guess. spooky things or cartoon characters or animals

why? you don't have kids here, do you?

Why would I have kids? I'm 17.

[ Not Gaia forgetting Shaw wouldn't know that. ]

I was just wondering why people would dress children up as monsters. Cartoons... so people would dress as characters in those moving picture tales too?

why not? people love their moving picture tales

It's just that we don't really have this sort of thing where I come from. Is this supposed to be a time to dress up as monsters or like you're a character in a play which can include monsters?
cactusy: (a little stabbing)

[personal profile] cactusy 2025-10-23 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
either

both

but you're definitely overthinking it, and anyone who isn't a loser won't care what you wear or don't wear on Halloween, so do whatever you want

This sounds like the merchant pushed pumpkin spice gimmick. Though I guess the reasons for the traditions fade over time, too.

[ Overthinking? Well Gaia isn't going to deny that. ]

Well, you're probably not wrong. But in my defense, I'm trying to understand something I've never even heard of before coming here.

where you're from, you have festivals that are just for fun, right?

I know what a festival is. In fact my friends and I were organizing one before I was first summoned away. I meant the reasons for this particular one. Its origins. That sort of thing. How it became what it is now.

That common sense that people don't think to talk about because they grew up with it.

[As someone who grew up straddling two cultures - sometimes more than one, depending on where in the world her father was stationed - Shaw gets it. She may not feel the alienation as acutely as others, but she understands what it looks like.]

ok

stock up on candy. not baked desserts or anything like that, pre-made individually wrapped candy. you can get it at the convenience store here. it's as much a candy holiday as a costume one.

I see. I've seen a bit of that in grocery stores.

[ She's likely talking more about fun size bars than actual Halloween packaging. But it's close enough. ]

So it's... to hand out? Ah. Is that what the 'trick or treat' bit is?
cactusy: (enemies with benefits)

[personal profile] cactusy 2025-11-21 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Trick or treat is a jokey threat. Give treats, or get tricks. No one actually goes through with it.

[Though, actually--]

Now that I think about it, maybe we shouldn't assume that here. Those bots are weirdly literal.
