Chirper

CHIRPER

Welcome to our bi-monthly CHIRPER post!

There are a few ways to interact with CHIRPER:
  • Characters receive a notification to please fill out the form, which is fully optional. There is a character requirement of two characters per answer field. This is to discourage leaving the spaces blank.
  • When forms are not filled out, they can be filled out by the companion bots of Etraya, or by other characters on behalf of their friends! This includes the Q&A section.
  • Characters can either like or dislike others' CHIRPER profiles. These responses are public.
  • This is voluntary on an OOC basis; if the character doesn't have a profile completed by themselves or anyone else, nothing shows up for them on CHIRPER.
  • For those who do post a top level, CHIRPER profiles are worth five extra points regardless of if they are put up willingly by the character themselves. These five extra points do apply to the 25 maximum per month.
This month there is a special 👻 SPOOKY SEASON 👻 addition: instead of ✓ or ✕ for like or dislike, it's 🎃 and 💀. Whatever the character has the most votes for shows up appended to their username on the network for the next month, as in, un: aurora 💀.

Please feel free to switch out any of the Q&A questions with those listed here!

**This is a fixed version of the code, sorry about that!

I — sort of? I understand what you're saying, yes. But also no, absolutely not, that does not make logical sense. People just drop dead when a number is painted on a monolith?

It’s a lot less gruesome than that makes it sound, but yes. We don’t know why. It’s just been that way since the number was 100.

[personal profile] newsbeat 2025-10-22 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
I am very sorry to hear that.
Does it go down by the same amount every year? Like a countdown?
cache_coeur: <user name=sonea> (nobody knows where they are going)

[personal profile] cache_coeur 2025-10-22 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, like a countdown. The day you’re born and the maximum age you could ever be go hand-in-hand, because the number never goes up again.

[personal profile] newsbeat 2025-10-22 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Why does this happen?
cache_coeur: <user name=sonea> (tip of my iceberg blues are showing)

[personal profile] cache_coeur 2025-10-22 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
We still don’t know. We’ve been trying to find out for generations.

[personal profile] newsbeat 2025-10-22 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow.

I guess this might come off as kind of trite, but I really hope you do, in time.
I can't even imagine what that's like.
cache_coeur: <user name=sonea> (as I look away don't hear what I say)

[personal profile] cache_coeur 2025-10-22 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
We'll keep putting our best & brightest on it. And frankly, we're here now! Etraya might offer us a better chance at stopping it than anything else we've tried. And if it doesn't, we've been preparing for the Last Generation for some years now. Last one out can turn the lights off, and all.

I'm glad you can't imagine it, though. There are some things we shouldn't even leave to our imaginations.

For what it's worth as someone from the outside, I think that's a really inspiring approach. Both parts.

[personal profile] cache_coeur 2025-10-22 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. That's very kind of you to say.

You still have to tell me what people do when they retire, by the way.

Some people live like they're on vacation together. Some get part-time jobs or even post-retirement careers because they like having purpose. The general idea is that after you work your whole life, you can relax and not have to hustle so much during the golden years. Not everyone's able to do that, unfortunately.
cache_coeur: <user name=megascopes> (I thought maybe you would)

[personal profile] cache_coeur 2025-10-26 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds so beautiful. I would have no shortage of hobbies, I think, but at the same time, most of my hobbies are rather rambunctious, so maybe I’ll have to retire those, too, and find something else.

Why can’t everyone do it?

Nothing wrong with finding new things to try. There's a lot in life to explore.
Finances, mostly. Not everyone has the money to retire or family to help out.
cache_coeur: <user name=sonea> (I don't even cry)

[personal profile] cache_coeur 2025-10-27 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Don’t I know it. I could take up writing or painting, I suppose. I don’t really know what elderly people are capable of.

And really? That’s shocking. What are they supposed to do?
newsbeat: (pic#17981506)

[personal profile] newsbeat 2025-10-27 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Work until they die, I suppose.
It's not okay. But it's how it can be.
cache_coeur: <user name=sonea> (and everything above)

[personal profile] cache_coeur 2025-10-27 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
I don’t understand. If your people live very long, don’t you have more young people to do the work? And you have more time to have children –– shouldn’t someone be able to retire if they have multiple children to carry on their work?
newsbeat: (pic#18110916)

[personal profile] newsbeat 2025-10-27 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
People do have the boon of being able to live long lives, yeah. But the world I live in is not a very fair place. I wish it were.
cache_coeur: <user name=megascopes> (but it's okay we all feel left out)

[personal profile] cache_coeur 2025-10-27 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
This seems like a kind of unfair your people can make better for those who come after, at least.
newsbeat: (pic#18110881)

[personal profile] newsbeat 2025-10-27 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
It is. It really is.
Plenty of people are trying to do exactly that but it's easier said than done. Even if it shouldn't be.
cache_coeur: <user name=sonea> (Lose and news and all things be)

It’s a sort of social ill that you can’t stick a sword into. We have a few of those but they’re difficult to kick out after they’ve snuck in.
newsbeat: (pic#18104499)

[personal profile] newsbeat 2025-10-27 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. I wish I could punch out poverty, but it doesn't work that way.
cache_coeur: <user name=megascopes> (so I will not ask you)

[personal profile] cache_coeur 2025-10-28 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
What causes poverty, where you're from?
newsbeat: (pic#18110916)

[personal profile] newsbeat 2025-10-29 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Not afraid of the big questions, huh?
A lot of things. Uneven distribution of resources, greediness of people who already have a lot, bad luck, cycles that are difficult to escape. It's complex. Feels like it shouldn't be, though.
cache_coeur: <user name=sonea> (oh how we try to wrap our minds)

[personal profile] cache_coeur 2025-10-30 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
If you think my questions are big, you better watch out for my friend Lune. I'm the flippant one.

It really shouldn't be! I left San Francisco feeling as though everyone there was so alone. Everyone had their own lives, places to be. You couldn't go anywhere without a private car, and even in public spaces, people moved around with their heads down and headphones in. Do people even know much about their neighbours' suffering, living like that? I couldn't understand it.
newsbeat: (pic#18088017)

[personal profile] newsbeat 2025-11-04 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Duly noted, I'll keep an eye out for Lune.

Well, there's something to be said for quietly taking space for your own thoughts and interests in such a crowded place. Living in such a densely populated city can be a lot, and people aren't always as alone as they seem. But I think it's also true that people would be a lot better off if they put more effort into building connections, and not enough people are willing to do that. It's a balance, I suppose
