Concerning Antigone's warning regarding our real names, it occurs to me that we would benefit from collaborating on this front.

To that end, I wish to open discussion.

Is this character like you, you think, or just aspirational?

I would say the latter. That his kindness is what ultimately saved his people is something I greatly admired as a child, and I hoped to be capable of the same.

Alas, I fear I fall short of the ideal.

There is truth to that. If naught else, I can still aid them here.

Do you think you’ll be sent back hale & whole?

I would think it miraculous, if so.

Do you think it’s beyond this place’s power?

I question whether it can change us in ways that persist in our own worlds, when all is finished. If we are plucked from certain points in time, would not such changes affect what comes after in unpredictable ways?

If you’ve been plucked out of time and your body is now intact, would they save your world from doom, thank you for your time, and then strike you dead? I can’t imagine what the point would be in worrying about the future, if the whole point is that our worlds didn’t have one, anyway.

I would serve my people in this now, regardless of whether that was the fate that awaited me. My life has ever been for them. One would hope all of this truly does secure a future for our worlds, else indeed it would be pointless.

I hope so too. If not... all of this just got very dark.

So what do you do for fun, Lucien?

I enjoy reading and writing. This place affords me far more time than I'd ever had for either, for I served in the military.

Since coming here, I've taken up cooking as well. I knew a little, but only enough to prepare something that wouldn't be a hardship to consume. What of yourself, how do you pass the time?

Oh good, you’re not all doom & gloom. Surprised that you found yourself without much time for those things in the military, though! When I was on Expedition, the quiet hours were excessive. You must have had either a whole lot of responsibility or none at all.

Me, I like spending time with people. I don’t really care what we’re doing, specifically, as long as it’s a good time.

Indeed, I'm not entirely devoid of whimsy. I served as commander and foremost defense of my people both, so there was much to occupy my time. Wars and border incursions have been unfortunately common. May I ask what manner of expedition you undertook?

I know someone who also enjoys being among people. In my case, I suppose I'm unaccustomed, for I was necessarily held apart.

A bit of search, a bit of discovery, a bit of rescue. My people are plagued by a god-like force that cuts down our population every year, so we send out Expeditions often to put a stop to it. We train by handling border incursions of our own, though.

What made your separation from your people necessary?

Every year? I hope you have put an end to that, or will soon.

I've my own feelings regarding necessity, but it is the way of things. It has been thus for generations.

Is that any reason not to do things at least a little differently?

I hope for the best for your people.

As my life has always been thus, I confess I've no idea where to begin. I have spent time with neighbors of late, at least.

In some ways, yes. Their worlds differ from mine, as do their backgrounds.
