Good day, fellow Etrayans.
Concerning Antigone's warning regarding our real names, it occurs to me that we would benefit from collaborating on this front.
To that end, I wish to open discussion.
For those who have chosen a name, please respond with what you have selected, that we may know what to call you.
For those who have not, you may use this posting to discuss your ideas or invite suggestions from others.
As for myself, I shall be using "Lucien", the name of a character from a novel in my world.

In my observation, that is true, though I do not believe there is a standard. How others compose their messages varies greatly. Some punctuate and others do not, and the same holds true of capitalization. I've noticed with some, one can glean something of their mood by changes in how they write, as well. I fear you are too generous in deeming it grace, but I can share my observations when next we speak, should you like.
To offer a suggestion and coordinate with others does pale to what I'm accustomed to, at least in my eyes. If anything, I suspect I do not contribute enough. This is my first time initiating such a dialogue on the network, in fact. But I thank you for your kind words and yet kinder eyes, seeing my modest contribution in such a way.
'Tis difficult to imagine having complaints. You have always been eloquent. I believe text messages are far departed from the way we were taught to pen letters as boys, yet I think your manner of writing is not wrong. We come from many worlds, so I believe the etiquette is what we all make of it. To that end, perhaps you shall also shape how others convey their thoughts.

So this shall be our three first winter in Etraya then? I hope we are able to ring it in with another successful mission under your belts.
You are very kind to continue to offer imparting your knowledge to me. It is my fear that I shall end up very much in your debt if you continue to do so. Still, even if you do so share, it is my intention to keep observing others in their utilization of such things. You shall not find me slacking in my duty.
It may be a mere shade to the work you are accustomed to, but was such not with a trusted team of your own? If rumors be true you were well acquainted with every man whom served beneath you. One cannot expect you to maintain the same work load with strangers in a strange land. Would you not agree? I think it would be folly to behave as such without your knowing of whom it is you rely upon.
What you say is true, they certainly are far from anything we have managed in Valisthea. Can you imagine having this capability back home? To send a message instantaneously and without the use of aether?

Indeed, we may all experience winter here following a successful mission.
Perhaps I should amend: might we collaborate, instead? You are likely to note details which I do not, for there are many around us. Hailing from so many worlds as they do, I've no doubt there is much yet to learn. We might find patterns beyond what I have seen thus far.
That is true, yes. I learned a great deal from those under my command, much of which I might not have known were it not for their insight. Here, it is much different. I've unquestionably learned from others, but I've less opportunity to know them well, or help ensure their needs are met. Would that I were more capable of supporting those around me thus.
There is a great deal I feel our people would benefit from, such efficient communication included. Have you yet seen the innovations in the hospital?

A collaboration with you would certainly be something I would enjoy. I look forward to amassing and comparing findings.
Given the circumstances around this place I do not think any could find fault in you for not having similarly rising in command. For starters none here seem to be beholden to any beyond Echo whom is not even present to manage or guide us. If anything I would imagine this duty to fall to the ones who have been here longest, but who knows if they possess the skills or willingness to do so. If that kind of position is something you seek I am sure in time you will be able to achieve more.
I agree, and I have. I can barely comprehend what is before my eyes within that building. Such strange devices, I wonder how one came across the inspiration for such things.

I too shall look forward to your observations and insights.
I've no such ambition, but I often feel that I do not do enough. Perhaps that is owed to being accustomed to far more involved duties than what is relegated to us here. It leaves me listless far too often.
Not long ago, a machine was added which is meant to treat the curse's affliction. Have you yet seen it? I cannot help but think of the difference it might have made for our people, had anyone conceived of and built such a contraption.

» I too feel this, yet I certain it does not compare to what you've felt having been here much longer than I have. Then again, I'm accustomed to having been made to devote time to sitting and resting. This too is part of our duty, keeping in good health so that we may perform admirably.
» A machine which treats lithification? I've not seen it, but I shall certainly make time to do so. Do you know how it works? Do you think we could replicate it back home? Think of how many people we could save with such a device.

Yes, resting was essential. I'm afraid I typically spent such time with paperwork or consulting maps, so it felt less idle to me than the time between missions does. That we're spared the curse's advancement here is a blessing, yet it makes me that much more aware of all this idle time.
[ He'll not inquire about Joshua's health over the network, at least not outside of his inbox where he feels reasonably assured only Joshua would see it, though he finds himself tempted. Later, he tells himself. Later. ]
A Doctor Romano explained his understanding of its function to me, though he is himself unfamiliar with magic. When he first announced its addition to the hospital, I volunteered to test it, for my condition is stable. Likewise, I could not help but think of what such an innovation would mean for our people. Were we able to understand the mechanisms behind it, I would hope we could achieve similar. It bears investigation.

» Lucien, that is hardly rest if you were still pouring over paperwork. It's in the subject's name, look. Paper*work*. Jote would be frowning at the very notion, not to mention what Tarja would say.
» Might I ask why our idle time is brought to the fore front of your mind when in consideration of how the crystal's curse has been halted?
» Then I shall seek to understand those very mechanisms. Perhaps this Doctor Romano will be willing to explain what he can to me as well. With such a strong number of us here I feel we might be able to put our minds together on how we might recreate such a thing. Just knowing it can be done lifts my spirit.

Perhaps it will not surprise you, though I suppose I shouldn't assume. In my life, the curse was a constant reminder of finite time. How I should use it, how limited it surely was. Here we've been granted time we'd not otherwise have, and freedom to decide its use, yet I cannot help but feel idling somehow wasteful.
[ He finds it difficult to explain, the way that awareness presses in on him. ]
I believe he would be willing. He indulged my conversation, when first he mentioned the addition of that machine. If I may be of assistance to such an endeavor, you need only let me know.
no subject
» You have the right of it. But truly? I'm certain Clive would encourage you to pray you need never witness it.
» I understand now. The length of my life has always felt finite, long before thoughts of the crystal's curse, I suppose that is why it did not occur to me immediately. But proper rest and rejuvenation are not wasteful. I hope that will one day feel real to you.
» Thank you, your help will be greatly appreciated.

Yet now you leave me terribly curious as to what that looks like.
It was always impressed upon me that I should not expect to see advanced years. Those before me did not, either. Yet I couldn't compare such awareness with the added concerns you've dealt with. Forgive me if my words neglected due consideration.
I'll do whatever I'm able.
