Concerning Antigone's warning regarding our real names, it occurs to me that we would benefit from collaborating on this front.

To that end, I wish to open discussion.

For those who have chosen a name, please respond with what you have selected, that we may know what to call you.

For those who have not, you may use this posting to discuss your ideas or invite suggestions from others.

A bird, much as a finch is. I had not heard of it, but that is true of much in this place.

It's the Japanese name for it. The English is red crossbill.

Crossbill... I daresay the other name has a grace about it, in contrast.

I've since updated my posting with the list. In the case of further replies, I will continue to do so. This mission will require much of us, but at least we may know one another more readily while we search for the others.

It's literal. The bird's beak twists over itself at the end so it's easier for it to eat pine cones.

Right. We're already going to have to hunt down some idiots we don't even know, it'd be even harder if we can't recognize each other.

I've not seen such a bird, but it makes sense enough for its diet. I know more of dragons than birds personally, but adaptation applies to them as well.

Indeed it would. I dare wonder how it is that some other overseer came to abandon these people. To place them in such danger indefinitely to no end... I'm grateful that Aurora is responding to their plight. However troublesome it may be, they need help.

Aurora's siblings aren't necessarily the most responsible people. Borealis was a shithead, too.

Regarding dragons? Yes, I am serious. They are quite important to my homeland.

Aurora has siblings?

It seems then we are fortunate for her reliability.

They only exist in fiction back home. How smart are they?

Yeah. Eos is her sister, Borealis is her brother. Castor is apparently another brother, and the one who left behind the people we're supposed to find.

We are. So far, the track record for her siblings is dogshit.

They're long-lived and grow more clever with age and experience. They are beasts, but they can be quite cunning and make reliable allies... Or dangerous opponents.

How unfortunate for other cities that they cannot rely on their overseers. Do you know whether Aurora has taken on people from other cities like this before?

Shit, a lot of books weren't far off about how they depicted those things.

No, she hasn't. As far as I'm aware this is the first time. She isn't very old, so it might just be that she's never had the chance before.

Some books I have read portray them as avaricious creatures. In my experience, that much is false. I've known none to hoard, much less seek gold.

Most people aren't. There's a lot of churn around here.

They are commonly domesticated in my country. Typically, they do not attack unless provoked or desperate.

I have observed as much with a friend of mine.

Yes and no. One could, but it does take some skill and care, and I'd not recommend it for those who haven't the facilities or resources to care for them. I trained an ice dragon, and dragonets are commonplace alongside soldiers.

He appeared when I did, vanished for two moons, returned with full recollection for a time, then vanished once more. Again he has returned, but from a slightly earlier point in time, with no recollection of his previous tenure. I know not what purpose it served to put him through this.

I see. What the hell is a dragonet?

It could be he's from a different universe as the first person. The other option is that they're the same person, but he's from a different point in his timeline. I don't know, I'm not convinced Echo has full control of their faculties at this point, so it could just be bad luck and not part of some deliberate plan they have.

Young dragons are dragonets. They grow larger with age, though not all become great drakes. Some become wyverns instead, for instance. Wyverns are mid-size, smaller than Earth cars, with wings as their forelimbs.

We compared recollections closely, and all that differed is that he came from before the battle he'd previously been in the midst of. I intend to treat him as the same man, and simply put aside his previous tenure. He worried he'd done something to cause this, but I couldn't imagine that. I'd think it far more likely it is as you say.

I've read about wyverns. How do you train them?

It's still possible he's from a different universe. If you go by the Many-Worlds Interpretation, if every possible outcome of quantum measurements results in a separate universe, then there's potentially an infinite number of them. There could be tons of universes out there whose only difference is on the quantum scale, and not something most people would ever be able to notice.

The process depends on whether they're raised from a young age or tamed later. In the case of the latter, it can be more trouble than it is worth, at times.

I think it best I simply treat him no differently, regardless. He is himself in all ways which truly matter. None of us will recall this time when we return, is that not so?

I see. Then it's probably good we don't have any running wild here.

That's been my experience, yes. I don't know if that's a limitation of Echo or deliberate on their part.

I think it best as well. They do prey on chocobos, besides.

In such a case, it seems there's little use in concerning myself with whether any of those from my world are from the same reality I am. I'd never know.

I suppose it doesn't matter, unless Echo ends up pitting us against each other to save our individual universes.

[And they haven't done that yet, so there isn't any point in dwelling on it.]

I should hope that never comes to pass. It would be cruel, to say the least.
