Good day, fellow Etrayans.

Concerning Antigone's warning regarding our real names, it occurs to me that we would benefit from collaborating on this front.

To that end, I wish to open discussion.

For those who have chosen a name, please respond with what you have selected, that we may know what to call you.

For those who have not, you may use this posting to discuss your ideas or invite suggestions from others.

Yup. Which is the whole point. At what point does it stop being about justice? What is one willing to sacrifice for revenge? There are a lot of different ways to answer those questions.

True indeed, especially when such answers may come down to perspective. One's righteous justice is another's senseless slaughter.

Exactly. It's a lot of gray area and part of why it's a theme that gets revisited over and over again. It's compelling.

[oblige]

I expect that would hold true in a great many worlds, if not all that have literature. To explore the notion and examine it in that way is worthwhile.

Yup. It's never black and white and everyone's got a different perspective. It's good stuff to think about while reading.

[oblige]

We are in agreement. Were more people to consider such things, it could do some genuine good.

[leastdramatic]

One of the many reasons why there's nothing wrong with being a bookworm. It helps you be a bit more worldly at least.

[oblige]

You've the right of it. I'd rather my world be larger than smaller.

For that matter, I feel it has been a great benefit being exposed to the ideas of other worlds.

Same. It's a nice way to kill some time at least, especially in between missions.

Indeed, it does well to fill the time.

I've also decided to try my hand at writing, lest I exhaust the books that interest me.

Ambitious. What're you writing about?

[oblige]

I thought to write a story about trust, in a sense. The protagonists are abruptly thrown into dire circumstance and need one another to move forward, yet they do not know one another, moreover coming from starkly different backgrounds.

Their joint venture thus begins as utilitarian and changes from there as they rely on each other and grow to see one another as more than necessity or convenience.

A classic kind of storytelling. The key thing is making both characters compelling enough for the reader to want to follow them the entire journey.

Agreed. A greater story occurs around them, yet characters are the heart of a story. If one cares not what befalls them, they've no reason to continue reading.

Exactly. Gotta be careful and not fall into the trap of being a little too love with your words when you write.

[oblige]

It wouldn't do to lose perspective. I'd only intended to write simply for the sake of doing so, for I had never had so much time as this, but others have expressed some interest in it. I shall have to see what their thoughts are and make corrections as necessary.

What kind of work were you doing before?

[oblige]

I served as commander of the Holy Order of the Knights Dragoon.

[ Also a prince but that was less doing and more being. ]

Fancy. You probably got a lot of experience to draw from then.

[oblige]

Mostly military and some politics. I do know quite a bit about dragons as well.

[leastdramatic]

Dragons are usually pretty fun to read about. That could be handy.

[oblige]

They're quite important to my homeland, so I've ample experience with them.

[ Plus the whole turning into one thing, but he doesn't think to mention it. ]

In a good way or a bad way?

Some measure of both, as is the way of dealing with beasts.
