Concerning Antigone's warning regarding our real names, it occurs to me that we would benefit from collaborating on this front.

To that end, I wish to open discussion.

I have seen this, especially from those with power. There comes a callousness toward those to whom they should owe greater care for their positions, yet it is seldom so.

There's a saying in my world. "Absolute power corrupts absolutely." If one is addicted long enough, there's no turning back for them.

I can see the truth in that, within my own world.

Understandable. Power is not a strictly Earth concept. Power and its destructive aftermaths seem to be universal truths.

I would only be surprised if that did not hold true, though I wish that were not so.

Is there a lot of corruption in your world?

[oblige]

Ambition and competition over dwindling resources are the driving factors, I would say. But so too is there a system that conveniences the many at the cost of greatly burdened few, so corruption is undeniably there on multiple fronts.

[godsandbats]

Benefiting the majority is a frequently cited reason to justify how the much smaller group is treated. It sounds like this system has been in place for a long time as well, so there's little motivation to change for most people.

You've the right of it. I fear I was scarce better for much of my life, for I was accustomed to it. I'd reason to treat those few better due to my own circumstances, yet I did not see clearly the degree of injustice in it for too long.

[ His country owned him too, but a Dominant was prized far more highly than a Bearer, and so... What he'd understood best was the shared affliction of the curse. ]

However, efforts are being made to change those circumstances, and there is hope yet for better.

Good luck. A dramatic change like that to a long-established system will take a while to work.

That it shall, though some factors may soon be removed entirely.

Perhaps it's for the best.

I would say so. Multiple ills my world suffers will end.

What sort of ills?

[oblige]

A blight which renders land lifeless and a curse which gradually petrifies those who wield magic.

[godsandbats]

A way to wipe out an entire world then. Hopefully you're not alone to trying to reverse course.

Fortunately I am not. I would not even say I was the first, for that matter. It was a friend who drew my attention to the state of the world, beyond the troubles of my homeland.

Are they here as well?

Yes, Joshua is here, along with his elder brother Clive.

I met Clive. He's a good man.

Indeed he is. Joshua does not fall short in that regard, either. I consider it a privilege to know them.
