I've always been fond of using the time dilation in a Painting to learn and practice other skills. It's particularly useful in combination with the inability to be truly physically harmed: The real world places certain limits on how long one may practice, for example, pointe, before one's feet give out and start bleeding too heavily to continue, but those limits do not exist in a Canvas.

It is also useful to test out a piece whose form is not fully revealed, particularly using resources that are difficult to come by.
