[Approximately 22 hours after arriving in Pollux, any mission-going Etrayans gets notified of a new post on their internal network with an unfamiliar username. The post loads, refreshes itself randomly, and even displays strange screen effects sometimes when loading in.

Thank you, I appreciate that greatly. There's a map feature I can add it to on this network.

Our own A.I. has hers located many levels beneath the surface, and protected by several means. I assume that might also be the case here. We have multiple copies of a new A.I. to install so we aren't putting all our eggs in one basket, so to speak; hopefully, one of us who has a copy will be successful.

Do you have any further information to share on Ms. Harman? Usual methods or routes?

Good question. I actually have no idea, but if it is, I assume it's an earlier version and wouldn't share the memories of the one here. I wonder if there's some kind of backup system for the city A.I... or if it was working given the communications blackout.

Oh dear. I wasn't planning to wander around unaccompanied, but I'll take note that subterfuge may be the wiser choice.

If it is, I'll at least have a conversation with him about appropriate caretaking of his residents. (Believe me, I feel more appreciative of Aurora every day.) Pictoris -- following the theme, you mean?

I can't say I know the capabilities of everyone from Etraya, but on my personal team, no. We do have an abundance of skilled snipers, however.

I'm not totally comfortable deliberately altering the personality of an entity proven to have self-determination. A conversation will have to suffice.

"Resident hacker" sounds as if I have some sort of designated title, which is hardly the case, but I suppose I could fit the bill. We have some knowledge of what to expect from past experience with Aurora. I'm cautiously optimistic that, since we're going in sanctioned by Echo, it will take less breaking and entering and more careful exploration.

Are you confident in your ability to do that? Hacking is a vastly different task than programming an artificial intelligence.

I don't go anywhere without them in Pollux -- I'm not sure I could get away with it even if I wanted to. I seem to keep acquiring people that want to look after me, despite my best efforts.

[ Harold has actually had some exposure to the language the A.I. are programmed in thanks to Accelerator, but not enough to feel totally confident in it. And, like he'd said earlier, he's not comfortable with the concept. ]

I wouldn't characterize a restructuring of priorities in the source code as a minimal change. Would you let me at least attempt a conversation first, please? Once we find out what iteration of A.I. this is, whether Castor or otherwise, we can reassess. But I am loathe to modify source code of a sentient being the same way I would have serious reservations about brainwashing a human being, were such a thing possible.

There's no grandeur of heroics, I can say that. But if left to my own devices I would prefer largely to be anonymous and unknown. It just never seems to work out that way, as you said. Something about other people having autonomy and never doing what you expect.
