I talked with the other bubble city.

[Perhaps you've noticed a construction of floodlights and neon signs, removed from their original locations and plugged in one of Etraya's darker areas. Maybe you noticed it go on and off at night, flashing morse code. Maybe you even noticed that the other city in the sky was signaling back.]

Their oldest resident has been around for six years. They were told they're here for the same reason we are, to save their universe. They don't know if anyone succeeded yet - people disappear sometimes, but no one knows what it means. They said they have "roles" that need fulfilling, and disappearances make it hard to find replacements.

Their "missions" sound more complex then what we've have had so far and could last for two months.

And they battled each other as well as other bubble cities.

I haven't told them anything about us, except that we've been here for a few months. I'm not sure what to do with this information or what else to ask, but I think everyone here deserves to know what might wait for us.

I can't believe we're going to be stuck here for years and it still won't make any sense.

"Everything comes at a price" is how Aurora puts it. I guess resurrection takes a lot of energy, so they punish us for wasting it, because clearly spending energy on a dragon is more important.

I can believe it. Omnipotent beings are usually assholes.

Imagine being omnipotent and this is what you do with it

The last omnipotent creature I met used his power to kidnap people to his pocket dimension, put them through movie-inspired horrors and harvest their suffering to fuel his recluse lifestyle.

Is part of being omnipotent being fucking weird about it

Maybe they all reach a point where they run out of normal stuff to do so they start acting out weird fantasies.

What happened to the recluse guy?

Last I heard he was captured by an even worse person.

Guess there's always a bigger fish ready to go for the one bugging you.

You think this is a similar situation?

I think it's hard to speculate when we don't even the extent of Echo's reach and abilities. They're way more organized than that recluse, that's for sure. I guess bigger fish are always an option but that won't necessarily work in our favor.

Yeah, true. I guess just something weird like "they're farming our misery" makes more sense so far than anything anyone's told me about what's been going on.

I mean, helping the spaceship made sense, kinda. But not the evil teddy bears or capture the flag games qualifying your universe for being saved.

But I've never had to save a bunch of universes before.

Me neither. And you can't force that responsibility on random people, anyway.

I have some guesses about missions but I'm starting to think it's a waste of time. Why bother with someone's excuses of why they get to play god.
