I don't know. I feel like he's lived a very different life from me according to a mutual acquaintance we have. I spoke with her over a brunch when we first got here.

It's odd when people all seem to know a version of you that's not you. I guess that's how the multiverse works though.

It may be different, but there can always be something you can take from that. It's not about what you have and what he has, but what can be learned.

[ honestly, he's a little envious. clark has always been alone. even here, he'll be alone. there's no real way around it. ]

I'm more than aware of that. Thank you for offering your wisdom, and thoughts.

[It might seem that Dick has people, and yet he's not quite there. They've settled together and he's apart. He's not at the mansion or the tower. He's at the apartments, by himself, watching the rest of them as they intermingle. It's not easy being the one that doesn't quite fit in. He's as alone as he can recall being in a while.

He thought Clark might be an ally, but he sounds far too much like Bruce and it's more annoying than anything else. He knows that the other male means well, but the words are those that Dick's known since childhood.]

It's only obvious to me because the way I was raised. I am using everything I observe here as a learning experience, no matter what it is. If we're to survive and do anything about saving a universe than it only makes sense.

Sounds like you had an unorthodox upbringing.

My parents died when I was young and I was brought up by a single billionaire philanthropist. He did the best he knew how, but he was pretty alone in the world too.

I ended up becoming a detective.

[ well that clinches it. ]

Are you also alone?

Yes, I am. Isn't that the way it works for most of us?

Perhaps.

But I think none of us are alone unless it's how we want to be. If we take a chance forward.

Well, then I'm Dick Grayson. Consider yourself not alone anymore if you want to take a chance.

I'm not great at trusting right away either, but you were the one who said we had to give it a shot, and I figure if I don't then I'm sitting here watching from the outside.

It's honestly good to meet you Clark Kent, do you happen to be from Metropolis by any chance?

It's not an easy thing to do when you're not like the rest of the world, or haven't been raised like them. Have you heard of me before? I was raised in Gotham.

I know of someone by the same name on my earth. I would never compare you to him. I know better, but I will trust you and let you know that you can trust me.

[ well. that strikes a chord. an uncomfortable relatable chord. does he want to trust the adopted progeny of bruce wayne? the man gave him his promise, helped him with doomsday. saved his mother.

I bet your parents taught you that you meant something. that you were here for a reason, bruce's guttural voice rings in his head as he dragged clark through the halls. clark can be honest enough with himself to know he still holds some lingering resentment there.

but.

he does believe. he does have faith. he wouldn't say it if he didn't. it's just . . . odd that one of bruce's acquaintances would deign to give it to him. ]

In a vague sense.

But you can trust me too. If that is your choice.

[In his world, Kent is a paragon of hope and the person who spends his time forever saving the world. Dick's spent the last four years working with a lab created 'clone' Connor, made from an even combination of Kent's genes and Lex Luthor's. The Lex in Dick's world being extremely different from the one that is of Clark's world.

Nothing is ever the same, and Dick already knows this. He's felt it first hand, and this is how he knows now more than ever that he is alone, or was alone. Trusting this Clark feels like a possibility. ]

It is. I will make sure your faith in me isn't misplaced. I don't know what this place has in store for us, but knowing I'm not completely alone in it is a relief.
