I have recently discovered that a person I care about is deceased at home. I do not know the circumstances, as I had just spoken to them before I was taken to this place.

...I research and invent things? My degree was in mechanical engineering, with a minor in metallurgy. I don't fight.

[Caitlyn probably wouldn't want him inviting strange guys from the internet over her house.]

I'll meet you at Corrine's Cafe. What do you look like?

[It's a fairly public area. Just in case this gets weird.]

Look for a cross-like tattoo on the forehead. You cannot miss.

Sure.

[This seems like maybe not the most inspired idea he's had, but also... he wanted coffee, so worst case, he winds up having a weird conversation but still has a nice hot cup of coffee.

It's still unsettling how empty places are. Just a normal cafe, but with exclusively robotic employees and mostly robotic patrons. Jayce sits at a table by the window, keeping an eye out of the man with the cross on his face.]

(hopefully, the other person comes too, and it saves him time from having the same conversation again. he should most definitely tell his companion that he invited another stranger, but introductions come first.

his hair is slicked back, the tattoo unmistakeable and sits in front of the other, a hand extending.)

I assume you are the scientist.

[As per polite society manners, he gets up from his seat to shake Chrollo's hand when he approaches, providing a firm but brief shake, and gesturing for Chrollo to sit opposite him.

He wasn't wrong, that is a large, unsubtle cross tattoo. Jayce looks at it a few half seconds longer than necessary.]

I am. Jayce Talis.

[This is where you finally introduce yourself too, buddy.]

(his voice hardly moves much, it's low and deep, but the handshake is as firm as jayce's - he makes sure to match it, before he sits.)

I invited another person to our meeting. I hope that is alright with you.

[The other person is Caitlyn, and she shows up as promptly as she's able, given the walk from the mansion to the café. She'd been informed that there would be another person at the meeting, but she hadn't expected Jayce.

She approaches the table with the stiff posture and furtive glances of someone who feels as though she's doing something very clandestine, and is making a very sincere but poor attempt at being subtle.]

Jayce. Is this... [She turns to the person seated opposite Jayce.] Are you the person I'm meant to meet here? To discuss the. Uhm. The information-gathering?

Caitlyn?

[He barks a laugh, not even a little quietly either. If this was clandestine, no one told him.]

I should have figured.

(oh, she is bad at this, very clearly. he could feel her presence a mile away, but he says nothing at it, instead looking at the two people he had brought together unknowing they already knew each other.)

Oh. You two know each other?

[clavesregni]

Yes. We're friends.

[She means that very sincerely. But it doesn't stop her from giving Jayce's shin a harsh nudge with her foot as she sits down, in retaliation for that laugh.

Her eyes do one final quick dart to each side — just to check they're not being watched — before settling on Chrollo.]

We are here to discuss gathering more information on this place, and anything they may know about our home worlds, correct?

Yeah we- ow, ow!

[Caitlyn has toes like daggers when she wants to. He pouts for a split second before remembering they have professional-adjacent company.]

We are, but I didn't know it'd be this...

[He lowers his voice, conspiratorially, but also still making fun of Caitlyn a little.]

Secret.

... Is it? I simply did not wish to have the same conversation again.

(although, to be fair, there is very little that is secret in this place, so they might as well get that out of the way.)

Although, it is hard to have secrets here. They know extensively about who we are.

[She refrains from kicking Jayce again. Barely.]

I thought we might not want Aurora to overhear us.

[And she assumes the 'companion bots,' as she's heard them referred to, report back to Aurora.]

How extensively?

[Not to say he's used to privacy much these days, but there’s a difference between knowing what he’s admitted to over the course of his exchanges on the network, and knowing where he’s got secret birthmarks, or how many years in a row he liked to dress up like a wizard as a kid.]

Wouldn’t she be able to hear us anyway, if we’re still wearing these?

[He points toward their shared ear pieces, necessary for communication amongst most groups.]

Extensively enough to know who we are at home and our skills.

(although he isn't just going to give more than that, and reveal to strangers who he is. his skills, at least some, they're fine to speak of; he doesn't mind it, and in fact, they might be important for whatever they might come up with.)

She can, most likely, but I do not believe we will be able to communicate without it. I do not think she is, though.

[Caitlyn, admittedly, does not have the most profound grasp on how the earpieces work — the technology is beyond anything that exists in Piltover, and she's never been as mechanically-minded as Jayce. So the idea that Aurora might be able to overhear the conversations even when the earpieces aren't in active use is both surprising and troubling.

She frowns.]

We're here to discuss gathering information on Echo, Aurora, and the workings of this place. [Maybe her voice is still a little quieter than is, strictly speaking, necessary.] How do you suggest we go about doing that?

[hexcope]

I'm assuming just asking is out of the question.

[He hasn't been here long enough to know that people just get outright shut down or told some generic response by Aurora before she would give any actual information.]

And Echo is impossible to get into contact with. In the absence of proper channels, next step would be breaking rules. Maybe... going somewhere you're not supposed to go?

[He looks directly at Caitlyn.]

Your expertise.

It hardly matters.

(if they come for him, that teaches him something. if they don't, that also teaches him something. whatever the outcome of being caught or otherwise is, it means something, and he cuts the speculation there.)

I want to steal information about what they know regarding our homes. The hospital seems to be the location in which those things are stored. I want to go in, steal the hardware, and decode it.

I have asked. Aurora either knows very little, or doesn't want to share much.

[She frowns back at Jayce. Yes, she likes to get into places she's not supposed to be, but that will be more difficult here, where her badge and uniform are meaningless and nobody's going to be inclined to overlook or acquiesce to her presence because of them.

To Chrollo, she says:]
