My name is Jayce Talis. I’ve noticed there’s a few buildings here that seem to be laboratories. If any have availability to lend a room or two, I have research and device development I would like to work on. Ideally if there’s any access to a forge of some sort, that would be preferred, but not required. I have a personal reference if necessary to demonstrate good character.

And just to clarify, when you wrote “well studied in many forms of magic,” you mean… as a mage, right?

We name ourselves dark priests, for we commune with higher powers and weild their might as they see fit to bestow it. But, yes. You could liken me to a mage, if that assists your understanding.

I've never met one of you before. If I get a lab space secured, hopefully you won't find it too tedious to work alongside me.

Magic tends to be rare, even within my own world. That you believe in it despite never meeting someone who can wield it, shows of your faith in concepts beyond your experience.

We shall see if that open mindedness persists once we begin our work.

[It's technically not true. He has met one before, but only for a matter of seconds. The mage that saved his life, that changed everything for him- not the same as having a conversation. He keeps that moment as a close-guarded secret now, years of being told he was wrong or mistaken about what happened squashing his desire to share it with just anyone. Viktor is the only one he's trusted with it in the past decade.]

[Everyone has their secrets, and Enki isn't fool enough to believe that everything that Jayce is telling him to be the complete and honest truth. He also isn't burdened by the lies of others, he's confident he will sort out any would-be deceptions, or at least sort which are worthy of even naming them such.

Jayce's little secret mage friend will hardly count by his measure, were he to ever learn of it.]

This is good. Any pursuit of knowledge demands no less. The moment one closes their mind is the moment their pursuits end.

Exactly.

[Except he means it in a, "I Should Get To Explore Cool But Harmless Things" way and isn't thinking about how this could be much much worse. For all the paranoia around "the warmongering of mages" in Piltover, neither he's met seem particularly warmonger-y, so this is probably fine.]
