Hello.
How are you all doing? [ A beat. ] Actually, you all know I don't care so let's ignore that question, hm?
So, who would like to have their fortune, romantic future, or whatever told?
I know, I know... tarot is still a [ Longer pause. ] hobby of mine, but one you get to reap the rewards of today.
Fun, right?

she doesn't want to lie and say it was for religious purposes because she might get called out on it [she was religious but buddhism wasn't too well known by most], and she couldn't say it was one of many tricks and traits she had to learn to entertain her 'clients'. so after a brief moment, she simply spoke up. )
I don't think you really care what the answer to that would be, so let's just say it was either learn that or learn how to do tea leaf fortune readings.
Which I ended up learning both. Do you know how to do that? Tasseography?

[ Because she's right. If she says it's religion, he doesn't recognize her voice, but he was prominent enough in the Order that anyone would know (and have complaints) about him. So, if she said it was religious, he would feel a sense of annoyance rather than camaraderie, for lack of a better word. If she said it isn't, he wouldn't care why she had to learn it. Either way, the answer doesn't matter since the end result would be the same. As such, his feelings remain neutral. ]
No, I never dabbled in that, but know some about geomancy.

( being one of the very few religious people aboard the serenity made it easy for her to gather up all the little breadcrumbs about him and piece together everything she could about him. he mentioned religion but there was something about all of this that felt so esoteric.
could he perhaps be a member of a sect within a popular religion? it was hard to discern given they call came from strange worlds and places, for all she knew it was normal in his world. after all, anyone else might think the rituals those born on sihnon were pushed into, the training, was something occult and nearly cult-like. still that suspicion gnawed at her. )
That's.....what kind of symbols do you usually use for that? Religious text? Imagery?

[ He makes a small noise. ]
Little bit of both.

it would be fair though, given her own transactional nature at times. )
I'm curious about your religion, are you looking to preach about it? I'm all ears.
( will he buy it? that she's actually interested in hearing him? that if he came to her door to spread the good word, she'd invite him in for tea? )

[ Please, he isn't a lunatic. He's slowly wearing people down that he thinks would be good members over the months than casually asking if they wanna join a cult. It's all very time-consuming, but hopefully, it'll bear fruit.
But hm, hm -- he supposes he can share a little. Nothing too damning, anyway. As much as he is an unpleasant person (and aware of being an unpleasant person), there is a difference between being disliked and being a threat. ]
Where would you like me to begin?

What kind of religion is it? I'm a Buddhist myself, I'm sure it's not anywhere near being similar but....
( especially considering buddhists didn't usually do card readings but alas, if they ever do get close enough, maybe he'll learn why she'd know how to do such a thing. )

[ As he will tell Claudia, they don't need to hide so much of what they are here. But they shouldn't share too much, either. ]
I don't know much about Buddhism, unfortunately.
[ He knows a lot about Catholicism, but that is only because he needed to know so much to hide under the guise of being a Catholic priest to tourists and outsiders who would come to the church. If they recognized the lie for what it was, it'd just breed more questions. ]

( emphasis on the 'your', because really she was just trying to pry a bit more into this mysterious man who was into equally mysterious things. )
Order of the Holy Woman? A deity of sorts or....
( he couldn't mean their god was viewed as a woman, now could he? )
no subject
[ He nods along as he accepts that answer well enough. ]
She is a deity, yes. She is the one that we call God.

( somewhere in the background he could hear her shuffling and opening a book, a pen clicking.
someone was taking notes. )

-- as for the reason why, it's because She is Her. [ Well. ] To put more plainly, we believe humanity existed before God. God was created by our fevered prayers for something beyond ourselves. She came into being and gifted us miracles to better our lives.

it could mean a number of things. though her interest in learning more was there but... )
This is all quite....interesting. Would you be offended if I invited you to a cup of tea? I'd like to lean more you see, I like to be aware of things in the world and learning about different worlds is something I've quite become interested in.
