Food, water, and a means of defending yourself are essential. A means to start a fire would be useful, though if you have a magic-user around, that may not be necessary.

Typically, I have seen packs or sacks used to carry supplies. The shops here may have something suitable for your use.

I didn't go to highschool either actually. Did you go to grade school any? I always thought school in general looked like fun.

To begin with, you would collect some wood to fuel the fire. To ensure the fire doesn't spread where you don't wish it to, you can either dig a pit or make a perimeter with stones or something else that is not flammable.

As the fire consumes the wood and its supply runs low, you add more to sustain the it. Feeding it, people say.

Many people travel where I come from. As there are vast stretches of sky between islands, being well-supplied is necessary. Admittedly, I don't require much, but I've observed others.

I don't think forced survival situations should really be called 'camping'

especially since you have to plan for it completely differently

I'm pretty sure that roughing it will be the least of our concerns. I give us a 1% chance that a challenge called the Labyrinth won't be infested by a bunch of monsters, especially since it's supposed to be some sort of "teamwork" challenge. You'll probably want to bring some firepower in addition to all the survival stuff. And maybe go by the buddy system.
