[Su You has his hair in a low pony tail, still dressed in the white robes he arrived in. Modern clothing is...odd.

He has some clementines in front of him, one of which he's peeling.]

Does anyone know a way to summon a god? Preferably one that is beginner friendly. [He pauses, then adds.] I suppose a method for summoning spirits may be suitable as well.

[Is he going to give context? No. At least he didn't ask about summoning demons...?

He takes a piece of clementine and puts it into his mouth...then makes a face when he chews it. He looks down at the fruit as if he had been betrayed by it.]

...this is supposed to be this world's sweetest orange? Why is it so sour...?

[Definitely ignoring, or rather blissfully unaware, that anyone here might be a god.]

Lots of reasons. For one, getting a god to directly intervene in any problem is like getting water out of a bucket by dropping a boulder onto it. Sure, the water is out of the bucket, but it's everywhere and the bucket is destroyed. Second, direct divine involvement opens up the door for other gods to get involved, usually ones who DON'T want whatever the first god is doing to succeed.

[He reads the words...then rereads it and slowly it occurs to him that what was probably happened here was that gods were, probably, different where this person was than where he was from.

That's not really how it is where I'm from. The gods were all of the same tribe and our purpose was to protect humans...and I'm really only good at the sort of problem that can be resolved by fighting, so that's all I'm going to be summoned for. [He had learned that the hard way!

But also! It occurs to him now that this might have been easier if he introduced himself!] My name is Su You, I am from the Ling Xiao Celestial Tribe...if that helps.

[Aliarra immediately decides he's using the word 'god' very differently that she understands it, either due to cultural or linguistic differences. If this guy's ever granted a cleric a divine spell, she'll eat her magic banner.]

Considering the nature of some of the gods I'm familiar with, and the nature of divinity in general as I'm used to it, summoning 'a god' has a lot of potential for making things go very very far in a direction you don't expect.

[He's granted a wolf spirit companion the spell to turn into, essentially, a kaiju using the power of the moon if that counts?

There's no reaction to the title. As far as he's concerned, this is no different from the time he introduced himself as a god and got 'I'm Zhao Muya, currently I'm a scam artist' in response.]

If that's the case, I can understand your reservations. That's not really the case where I'm from.

[Though no one has summoned a god in about 200 years but that's...due to an entirely separate reason from anything related to their conversations.]

Considering where we are, what a summoning ritual would consider a 'god' is a pretty open question we probably don't want to answer. If you come up with one, maybe narrow it down so it has a more specific target?

Not that I know a thing about summoning or gates besides they exist and work, but that's my take.

The way I know can only summon a specific individual, but the person I am trying to teach doesn't have the spiritual energy needed to do the spell...but you bring up a good point.

I taught him the celestial summoning from where I'm from. He doesn't have the spiritual energy to perform it so I was going to slowly siphon some into something he could carry and eat when he needs it.

That's honestly a terrific idea. Can you do that for more than just summoning?

Spiritual energy can be used for many things...though I haven't met anyone else yet who seems like they might know how to use it.

You bite the fruit, you release the energy. There's more to it than that?

It's not too complicated. Circling the spiritual energy in your body in certain patterns combined with the right words will create different effects.

Right, but I was wondering about a solution for those of us who don't do that sort of thing. A pre-patterned energy form, basically.

[He had the deeply thoughtful look of someone....who has absolutely no expertise in this issue and so has to think really hard about whether or not that even works.]

I guess...something like an array? But that's not something someone carries with them...

It isn't? I'm thinking of this like a potion, and those are relatively common in the wider multiverse.

Think of it as a one-time spell in physical form. Someone who knows how can make a spell they can cast into a liquid which anyone can drink to gain the effects of the spell.

Oh. That sounds convenient. Can you make a potion with any spell?

Not strong ones, and they have to actually affect a person directly. You can't make a potion of fireball, because it just explodes in an area.

It would also really suck to drink.

[he imagines it for a moment...then he nakes a face.]

...that would be terrible. [but also...] Does it need to be drunk? If you threw it would it still work?

There are some alchemical flasks that'll do that, although not with anywhere near the force of a spell. For actual magic, it's a lot harder to distill something like that, as I understand it. Needs to be done a different way.

That sounds complicated.

Very. I am not a spellcaster and never want to even come close. Too much stuff like that to worry about.

I do not specialize in spells and arrays for similar reasons.
