[Su You has his hair in a low pony tail, still dressed in the white robes he arrived in. Modern clothing is...odd.

He has some clementines in front of him, one of which he's peeling.]

Does anyone know a way to summon a god? Preferably one that is beginner friendly. [He pauses, then adds.] I suppose a method for summoning spirits may be suitable as well.

[Is he going to give context? No. At least he didn't ask about summoning demons...?

He takes a piece of clementine and puts it into his mouth...then makes a face when he chews it. He looks down at the fruit as if he had been betrayed by it.]

...this is supposed to be this world's sweetest orange? Why is it so sour...?

I'm sorry...your people? Gods have people? That can be wiped out? Are you sure you're a god? Maybe it's some kind of translation error, because last I checked, gods were unknowable entities of pure power that created the rules for what it means to live and die. Which one of you, while crafting the fabric of the universe, decided to make demons powerful enough to not only hold their own in a fight against the gods, but actually be able to wipe out entire tribes of gods?

[Having gotten his angry arguments out, Su You feels a lot better already. He is short tempered but also doesn't hold grudges. Was he going to be really friendly? No, but he's at least neutral.]

I do not know what it is like where you're from. Gods do not have that sort of power where I am from. No one has or, as far as I know of, ever had. We are immortal and far more powerful than mortals. As for demons...we do not know where they came from or why they are powerful only that they are dangerous and since we receive the prayers of humans we have an obligation to destroy that which endangers them.

[It's not complicated! (Except it is a little bit because demons are actually related to gods but shhhh. No one knows that at this point in the story.)]

So gods where you're from are just a race of people that are extremely powerful and won't die of natural causes?

[This sounds more like the elves in Aliarra's world than anything.]

We can't die except when killed by a stronger god or a demon.

Wouldn't you be able to just grant whoever you wanted to summon you the ability to do so, though?

I already taught him the way I know, but at the moment it requires me to lend him some of my spirit energy. I thought if there wasn't an easier way for him to summon me until he is able to do it on his own power.

The gods in your world are fine with humans getting enough power to summon them without having that power granted by a god?

[It was definitely power that could be achieved by ordinary people in Dwayne's own world, but gods didn't like when they did it on their own.]

It's a little annoying but if they're desperate it can't be helped.

I don't mind. I gave him some already and I have a way to give him some he can use when needed but...if there is a way he can summon me without all that then it's safer, right? There would be less chance that he'd be in danger and I can't go to protect him. I thought with so many people from so many different worlds here that someone might know some other way.

Yours is the first I've heard of that summoning a god is something anyone would casually do.

It's not that casual, is it? It's quite a lot of energy. It's supposed to be for emergencies. Or when it's necessary. Only an idiot would use it casually.

The way you described it, it as definitely a lot more casual than what I'm used to. Sure, it might take a lot of power, but the way you talked about it, it didn't seem dangerous.

...that makes sense. Cultivation in general isn't dangerous. At least, not usually to the user in normal circumstances.

Cultivation is when you circulate the natural energies in your body to cast spells or create arrays. This includes the spell for summoning gods.

Oh, that part isn't what's dangerous. Our magic users cast spells the same way, and I've never seen any sign that it was dangerous for them. It's just that while I've heard some people claim that some gods in their world might even help humans from time to time, your world is not only the first world I've heard of where they're obligated to protect humans, your world is also the first one I've heard of where they have any obligation to not kill any human on sight who displeases them.

So not a lot of worlds other than yours really work out the best way to summon a god, because generally most people don't want to summon a god unless they're reasonably certain they'll be happy about being summoned.

Just like there's not a lot of worlds with 'summon a swarm of angry bees directly on my own face' spells, either.

...it still confuses me why gods would do that. Even if they are so powerful...especially because of that, why would they need to do that? Can't they just ignore what displeases them?

They could, if they wanted to. Or they could wipe it out. I guess they just choose the latter.
