CHIRPER

Welcome to our bi-monthly CHIRPER post!

There are a few ways to interact with CHIRPER:
  • Characters receive a notification to please fill out the form, which is fully optional. There is a character requirement of two characters per answer field. This is to discourage leaving the spaces blank.
  • When forms are not filled out, they can be filled out by the companion bots of Etraya, or by other characters on behalf of their friends! This includes the Q&A section.
  • Characters can either like or dislike others' CHIRPER profiles. These responses are public.
  • This is voluntary on an OOC basis; if the character doesn't have a profile completed by themselves or anyone else, nothing shows up for them on CHIRPER.
  • For those who do post a top level, CHIRPER profiles are worth five extra points regardless of if they are put up willingly by the character themselves. These five extra points do apply to the 25 maximum per month.
This month there is a special πŸ‘» SPOOKY SEASON πŸ‘» addition: instead of βœ“ or βœ• for like or dislike, it's πŸŽƒ and πŸ’€. Whatever the character has the most votes for shows up appended to their username on the network for the next month, as in, un: aurora πŸ’€.

Please feel free to switch out any of the Q&A questions with those listed here!

**This is a fixed version of the code, sorry about that!

That would be a very interesting funeral. Would you want it to be more of a guided path through cultures and times, or more free-range, where people can wander where they please?

I imagine the latter might get a little dangerous in a Canvas.

I would want to allow them to wander. Part of the experience should be not knowing when it would happen and where you would end up. That is one of the aspects of death that is most unnerving.

Dying in a Canvas does not physically harm people who are from outside.

I think, were I to go into your Canvas of memorial, I would want to be able to wander, too. It would remind me more of you and, as much as I would be interested in how different cultures experienced and handled death, that would be what I wanted.

However, I sincerely hope that I never have to wander through a Canvas dedicated to your death. I very much prefer you alive.

I remember you telling me once about someone being able to get lost in a Canvas and how it can have negative impacts on their body. Is that only for the person who makes the Canvas?

Let us hope if I die here, it isn't a surprise and I have time to complete my work and make arrangements.

I also prefer to be alive.

No. Anyone can become lost inside of a Canvas. One's body can only sustain itself for a certain period of time. How long that is depends on a number of factors such as training and one's physical health. It's also possible for a Painter to trap someone.

If your death here grants you enough time to create an entire Canvas, I am going to put just as much effort into finding a way to make sure you don't need it, beautiful though I am sure it would be.

I'm glad we're on the same page there.

How would a Painter go about trapping someone?

Private

They overwrite your will and memories with their own and make you believe the Canvas is the world. For example, I could make you believe you had always been the wind caressing flowers, so you would not know to want to return to yourself. And so you would pass by the time as your body grows weaker outside until you fall.

Or there is always the more prosaic option of creating something so appealing that someone doesn't want to leave.

I see. It sounds like the ways a person can be trapped in a Canvas are only limited by the creativity of the Painter.

When a person's body dies, does the part of them that is still in the Canvas die as well?

[personal profile] repaintress 2025-10-18 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, unless you are the Painter of the Canvas in question. A part of one's soul is needed to make a Canvas, and it persists after the death of its creator.

If someone is in the Canvas when the Painter dies, do they get stuck there?
repaintress: by betenoir (Default)

[personal profile] repaintress 2025-10-20 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Not unless they were already trapped to begin with. A deceased Painter's Canvas can be entered and left at will provided it continues to exist.

Do you consider Painting a kind of magic?
repaintress: by betenoir (Thinking)

[personal profile] repaintress 2025-10-23 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I do not know. I've spoken to some people here, but I am uncertain how to classify our Gift.
herofhopeless: (Cute happy smile)

[personal profile] herofhopeless 2025-10-25 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I default to calling what I can do as magic. It makes it easier for people to understand. For what it's worth, I think what you can do is very magical.

You'd consider me magical if I were doing nothing but sleeping.

[ There's a teasing lilt to her voice. ]

[personal profile] herofhopeless 2025-10-26 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Mmm, you're not wrong. You do make the most mundane of tasks seem otherworldly.

[Her tone is reflected back to her with fondness and the tiniest hint of sincerity.]

[personal profile] repaintress 2025-10-26 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Technically, everything I do is otherworldly. We're from different worlds.

herofhopeless: (Bright happy)

[personal profile] herofhopeless 2025-10-29 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
[He chuckles.]

Ha ha, very funny. Does it also count if you can create other worlds in your own way?
repaintress: by betenoir (1)

[personal profile] repaintress 2025-10-29 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course it does. It ascribes good qualities to me, so it counts.
herofhopeless: (Soft corner smile)

[personal profile] herofhopeless 2025-10-31 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah yes, another good point. As usual, you are full of those.

[He's teasing, but he's also not wrong.]

[personal profile] repaintress 2025-10-31 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course I am. All of my points are valid and useful. The world would be much better if more people listened to me.
herofhopeless: (Smirk)

[personal profile] herofhopeless 2025-11-02 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
While I certainly can't account for the entire world, I find listening to you to be both helpful and very pleasing.

Are you flattering me, monsieur?

It is working. Come here.
herofhopeless: (Default)

They’re gonna have a good night. Wrap?

[personal profile] herofhopeless 2025-11-03 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Always.

I’m on my way.
