[If anyone hasn’t seen Jayce within the past few months, he looks quite a bit different. His hair is longer, he has a beard, and doesn’t seem quite as full of energy as he might have in the past. He’s also not dressing as uptight as he used to— a lack of vest and tie, exchanged for just a simple button up shirt. The background is once again S.T.A.R. labs, although he’s not trying to hide it this time.]

Hey, Etrayans. For those new to this whole thing, welcome. I’m Jayce Talis. For those who came from Pollux, also welcome. I can say with full confidence Aurora’s better at this than Castor is.

[Aurora probably won’t appreciate that comment, but whatever. He stands by it. But that aside…]

I’m putting out a call for fellow scientists to come together and work collaboratively on research involving what we know about Etraya, and more importantly, what we don’t know. This could also include strategizing developments to improve our lives here, and solving problems with our understanding in our respective fields. 


Something that we have here that we lack in our own worlds is the variety of perspectives. In my world, some of our greatest achievements are beyond what’s possible in other worlds, but we don’t have plastics or microwaves. Think of this as an opportunity for all of us to better ourselves, in this… transient existence we’re all stuck in.

Meetings would be here, in S.T.A.R. labs, every Thursday morning. No requirements if you want to participate other than an open mind, and a good attitude. No shooting down suggestions without hearing things out, and if you happen to have some sort of grudge against any of the participants here, you leave it at the door when you come in, or you’re not coming in.

Amputated. Monoco takes them from the corpses. It's a little weird, but he polishes them up now and then.

Anyway. I take it by "Gestral" this is a non-human being. Sentient, by the sound of it. I didn't think your world had sentient non-humans.

I thought they were a story told to children until recently.

Is that something normal in your world?

[hexcope]

Yes. It's strange here how there's almost exclusively humans and that's it. If we're intended to represent our worlds to save them, having non-human species is a lot less common than I thought.

Good point. Just like why certain people and not others are chosen to be here. Or why there are apparently multiples of certain people.

Would love to crack that last one in particular...

But maybe that's something for the Science Club to work on. To a lower degree than actual problems, of course.

It's unsettling, yeah? All the possibilities. It's like being very aware you're standing in the edge of an infinite abyss.

You'll never be bored if you have things like this to theorize about.

I don't usually find all the possibilities unsettling. Maybe a little overwhelming if I consider them all problems to solve, but I'm beginning to think not every question needs an answer. Sometimes just the thought about it is enough.

I think so, too. Some things will just forever be beyond our understanding and sometimes having an answer doesn't really change anything for the better.

Not the the kind of train of thought I imagined myself going down. A younger me would say I'm giving up. Maybe I am, a little.

I like to call it preserving sanity.

Like I said, a younger me would call that giving up.

I'll be on the safe side and say a year.

Maybe it's not giving up... but maturing.

Maturing kind of sucks.

Oh, don't tell me that. I still have some to go.

You'll be fine for a while. But once you hit thirty, you're going to wake up, and your back will hurt. No reason why. The spine decides it's time to give up.

I do live with three people in their thirties. I hear a lot of interesting noises. Especially when someone is hunched over a desk for hours on end or falls asleep on the sofa.
