[If anyone hasn’t seen Jayce within the past few months, he looks quite a bit different. His hair is longer, he has a beard, and doesn’t seem quite as full of energy as he might have in the past. He’s also not dressing as uptight as he used to— a lack of vest and tie, exchanged for just a simple button up shirt. The background is once again S.T.A.R. labs, although he’s not trying to hide it this time.]

Hey, Etrayans. For those new to this whole thing, welcome. I’m Jayce Talis. For those who came from Pollux, also welcome. I can say with full confidence Aurora’s better at this than Castor is.

[Aurora probably won’t appreciate that comment, but whatever. He stands by it. But that aside…]

I’m putting out a call for fellow scientists to come together and work collaboratively on research involving what we know about Etraya, and more importantly, what we don’t know. This could also include strategizing developments to improve our lives here, and solving problems with our understanding in our respective fields. 


Something that we have here that we lack in our own worlds is the variety of perspectives. In my world, some of our greatest achievements are beyond what’s possible in other worlds, but we don’t have plastics or microwaves. Think of this as an opportunity for all of us to better ourselves, in this… transient existence we’re all stuck in.

Meetings would be here, in S.T.A.R. labs, every Thursday morning. No requirements if you want to participate other than an open mind, and a good attitude. No shooting down suggestions without hearing things out, and if you happen to have some sort of grudge against any of the participants here, you leave it at the door when you come in, or you’re not coming in.

[He arrives with a small bag, bearded as per the video showed, and with a leg brace on the leg that Antigone had last seen horribly mutilated. He walks on it well enough, but it's no secret when he approaches, with the metal clank sound it makes.]

[past a pile of unplugged electric cables, some assorted crockery and broken glass, there's a much better tent than before -- one actually designed for the wilderness, not the draped hospital bedsheets she'd started with. thank Dion for the proper camping lodging.

the fire pit is all Antigone, and she's splayed on her back near it, idly wagging a twig in a hand.

at the call, she swishes it in a more intentional, waving kind of fashion.]

Traps're off, you're good. C'moooonnnn oooover. [but get up and greet properly? nah. she's just gonna lay there, staring skyward.]

It's proper manners to at least stand if someone's coming to visit you.

[He'll remind her of it, when he has zero expectations of Antigone to have any manners whatsoever. As he approaches, he looks somewhat better than when he last saw her: the beard stays, as does the longer hair, but it's trimmed and brushed, as well as he's wearing cleaned up clothes. Most notably, his leg that had been deeply fucked up is in a metal brace now. He shakes a little pouch with him that has the loose-leaf tea in it.]

At least tell me you have water already boiling?

[she sighs, so put-upon, and sits up, squinting up at him.] I stood and disarmed all my traps. You're welcome.

So you're jealous of the furry look and keepin' some on your face, huh?

[she smirks lazily, tapping the stick against the pot she's got boiling over the fire.]

Viktor likes it this way, and it hides the scars.

[Jayce takes a heavy seat on whatever approximation of a chair is nearby- a stump, maybe.]

You seem like you're in a better mood. Didn't know you missed me this much.

Antigone has cause to scoff, and thank goodness; otherwise, she'd have looked stricken, caught. her cheek itches almost out of reflex and prompts her to turn her head and lean into her contrarian huffiness.]

Dunno any Victors or vicars or whatever, but you're not the worst thing to come stomping into camp, I guess.

...Viktor? My partner? You've never met him?

[He gives a surprised look to Antigone as he takes out the little bags of tea.]

We're going to need cups. I hope they're clean.

I'm not really a social butterfly, Long-Term. Lotsa people I dunno by name, let alone by look. [she dusts the snow off her rump and trudges off to a pile of junk near the tent, rummaging.] Partner, huh. Eeeeveryone's got themselves a buddy from home here, huh. Wow.

Well, he looks like... hang on.

[He shifts the small bag off his shoulder, and rummages through it. He doesn't have a photo of Viktor on him- something he should probably remedy- but he does have some sketches he's drawn of Viktor. They're a little cartoonish looking, but he holds one out to show it off.]

There were more people from my world, until recently. Now it's just Viktor and I. And... a second Viktor. But it's technically another world, in his case.

[Antigone manages to swallow back on the surge of bitterness and jealousy that's rared up, and by the time she turns back around, her expression is rather flat and vacant, blinking a few times before the sketches shift into focus.

in her hands, two old plastic to-go coffee cups of...questionable cleanliness.]

...Just looks like guys to me. I 'unno 'em. Two partners. Lucky you. Here. [cup.]

[He looks at the cup. Back to Antigone. Back to the cup. He doesn't take it.]

Why don't you live in a house, again? And the other Viktor isn't my partner.

[rudelanguage]

[she frowns. just gonna...gonna have her holding this damn thing out all day and night? huh?

with a wiggle of the cup:] I don't like sleeping in closed walls like that. Especially with all the glass eyes around here.

[hexcope]

[He reluctantly takes the cup.]

Then we need to get you a sink or something. Water filtration system. This-

[He wiggles the cup now too.]

Is unacceptable. This is how you could get sick.

[good. cup given. good deed done.]

I don't drink shitwater, Jayce. It's the river. Unless Echo's got a shitriver, in which case...well, I mean, I already think the world of him as it is--

It's the cup I'm more worried about.

[Internally, he's already overthinking about how if Dwayne kills a deer, leaves it's half-eaten body in the river upstream, and now you've got bacteria flooding down into your water source-]

But maybe we should be worried about the river too. Let me make you a water filtration system. And a sink. I don't care if you piss in the woods, or whatever it is you're doing. If you have at least this, you'll have clean water you won't need to boil before drinking.

[so what you're saying is Dwanye is committing murder. nice.

she cocks an eyebrow.] Wouldn't it already be clean? I mean, isn't it Aurora's job to keep us all alive and fit for...whatever garbage we're subject to next?

We don't know. As far as I know, no one's studied it. The only water I've tested for unusual chemicals is that one time the beach was weird looking.

Most likely it's clean enough, but your cups certainly aren't. If you had a sink, you'd be able to wash them without going down to the river.

You worry about a whole lotta stuff, don'tcha. Long-Term.

[her head cants to the side, scrutinizing him.]

[Yeah. He's pretty much worried about things, 24/7.]

It's a valid worry.

I mean... [one-eye squint, head tilting in the other direction. very puppy-like.] On the ladder of things to worry about, thoughhhh...

... So is that a no on the sink?

[It's sounding like a no.

Even though Antigone's right. It's not important, on the grand scale of things. But if he does a bunch of little projects, to stall doing his big important projects, then it's like he's still getting things done at the same rate, and-]

Where are you putting it? It's not fitting in there. [she juts her thumb over toward her tent.] Like...

It'd have to be outside. Like maybe here...

[He points at a more clear spot of the camp.]

And then you could also get a bathtub next to it. With a curtain, you know, for privacy. Totally doable.
