[ The video starts with a boy in a baseball cap, wearing a bright grin and lifting a hand in greeting. An I-come-in-peace kind of greeting. He's in his bedroom, sitting on his unmade bed and while his room isn't messy per se (he hasn't been here long enough to accumulate a mess), there are a few shirts haphazardly draped over the back of his headboard. ]
S'up, Etraya? The name's Junpei Iori! I'm pretty new here. Still getting the lay of the land and all, but uh...
[ He rubs the back of his neck, glancing past the camera for a moment. ]
My birthday's on the 16th. Which I guess is operation day? So I'm thinking of celebrating early. Anyone wanna maybe...hang?
[ God. That feels so pathetic. Like coming on here and pretty much announcing he's a friendless loser. Junpei quickly pivots: ]
Or I guess you could just give some recommendations of good places to check out and party it up? What place has the best food or where can a guy get a good cake...that kinda thing? Yeah, sure. I can probably go find somewhere on my own, but the best reviews are usually word of mouth!
[ Junpei shifts, palms planted on his knees as he leans forward. ]
Sooo, lay it on me, folks. Where would you spend your sweet seventeen in this place?

[ Who knows when this went to a we situation.. Yet the word flows so naturally out of Fabian's mouth, like he isn't even thinking about it.
Which might actually be the problem here. ]
A big venue, lots of decorations, good music-- Please tell me that you are arranging good music. We need a dance floor for sure!
no subject
Well, I dunno about DJs or anything. No one's come forward with that particular skillset so far, but so long as I could get my hand on some speakers...I did come equipped with this bad boy right here.
[ Junpei holds up an early 2000s MP3 player, waving it with a grin. ]
Had it in my pocket when I got brought over to that other world. Got some good stuff on here that'll get you tearin' up the floor, my guy! So don't you worry about that! Would you be able to handle the guest list?
[ A guy like this HAS to know pretty much everyone of importance in this place!! ]
no subject
[ ... Hold on for a moment there, Junpei. Before Fabian can even do as much as contemplate a guest list, his attention is drawn away entirely from anything the other guy says after that first part.
Instead he's just blinking. Like his brain is trying really hard to process something, but not quite getting there. ]
What is that?
no subject
[ It takes Junpei a moment to double back, not quite sure what Fabian's asking about. And then he glances down at the MP3 player. ]
Oh, this? I guess it is pretty futuristic, huh? It's called an MP3 player! You can have a ton of music on these little things. It's great to have it on the go and you mostly listen to it with ear buds -- which are kinda like the earpieces we got to connect to the network.
[ He taps at the device on his ear. ]
But you can totally hook them up to play over speakers! Pretty neat, ain't it? Definitely a whole lot more portable than vinyls.
[ Which is clearly.....what Fabian must have as his means of playing music, right??? ]
no subject
[ He says it so slowly. So awkwardly. It's like watching your grandpa try to wrap his head around what today's youth is into. Except Fabian is definitely just a teenager, even with that silver hair situation he's got going on. ]
I can't say I have ever heard of that. You mean to say you don't use Crystals where you come from? [ Fabian will even hold up his own to display it to Junpei!
Which-- well, it definitely looks like it's made out of crystal. The shape is a little bit like a modern smartphone, but it's 100% just a crystal he's holding up. Big new age spirituality vibes going on here. ]
no subject
[ He wouldn't be surprised, though. There was a time he thought magic and abilities were impossible in his world. Of course, the mention of the crystal strikes a familiarity of a different sort. Junpei squints at it before his eyes light up. ]
Wait!
[ He very distinctly remembers a conversation about video games and "crystal games" with a certain goblin. ]
Yo, do you know Riz?? He totally saved my ass back in Auriel!
no subject
Fabian is stopped before he can fully process that thought though. Because Junpei goes on, and the mention of that name definitely widens Fabian's eye a little in surprise. Just enough to be able to tell that he definitely recognizes that name. ]
The Ball? [ .. not the name Junpei was using, but don't mind that, Fabian says this one so naturally instead-- ] You met him?
no subject
Oh yeah! Out in the woods. I'd just run off from the Fae and was trying to build a fire. Then Riz comes in like a knight in shining armor -- cue choir of angels -- and offers me a lighter! Took me back to the castle and we hung out until it was time to come back to Etraya. It took me a bit to get used to calling him Riz instead of Sar-Nasaar, but...yeah!
[ Junpei beams. A little proud of himself for making this connection. Truly some Ace Detective work here! ]
He'd just mentioned playing Crystal Games so I assumed you knew a little something about that with your music playing crystals.
no subject
So the story isn't very surprising in the light of this new information. If anything, it makes Fabian huff with amusement. ]
Yes, we are very familiar. Part of the same adventuring party back home. [ And then, after a slight beat: ] Best friends.
[ Not something he would have admitted so readily a while ago, if at all.. But.. you know. You go through a few life and death situations with someone, stuff changes. ]
I imagine he likely did not tell you much else about the place we come from, given the whole.. [ He makes a vague hand gesture. ] .. you know. Secrecy-while-hanging-out-with-fae thing.
no subject
He laughs a little, swiping the tip of his nose with his index finger. ]
Not too much, no. Even though most of the Fae were gone by that point, we mostly talked about Etraya. I wasn't sure they were even gonna let me in here. Tried to kinda hide behind Riz when we walked through the portal just in case they were gonna reject me or something.
[ He lets out a huff of amusement. Not like Riz could really hide him anyway given the height difference. But it was fun to treat it a little like a stealth operation! ]
How long have you two known each other?
no subject
His thoughts do linger on that fact, but he first answers the question with a little shrug. ]
Almost three years now. We met on our first day at school. [ A slight pause, and then the earlier thought returns, adding: ] Why did you think they weren't going to let you in?
no subject
[ Getting to be from a fantasy place should automatically exempt someone from having the typical boring high school experience! Junpei shakes his head and appears sympathetic. ]
For coming here though... I dunno. I wasn't exactly chosen and brought to the hospital the way most people come in. I don't even remember how I got to Auriel. I was just there, listening to everything the Fae told me to do. So I thought maybe it'd be like when a faulty product comes through the factory line or something and I might get rejected. But since that didn't happen, I guess the people in charge were charmed by my stunning good looks and charisma and couldn't help but keep me here!
[ Junpei beams. ]
Yanno! Kinda like you!
no subject
They're so cool.
Though-- ]
Wait, why can't you believe we have school? I mean, I understand that I am a natural adventurer and technically would not need it and all, but my parents said that it would be a good place to show off how amazing I am!
no subject
I dunno. They never really show people in fantasy movies or manga doing the whole school thing. I thought it'd be like more one-on-one studies. Mages and shit being cooped up in a stuffy library with a Head Mage, learning about herbs and curses and stuff.
[ He chuckles. ]
Buuuut I guess reality's different! And it just makes you and Riz all the more relatable. PLUS having cool adventures....maaaan! All I had was school. And a couple of boss battles that came around every full moon to save the world. But that's it. I wanna have a cool adventure with you guys!
[ Pout, pout, pooooouuuut ]
no subject
[ A normal thing to say, clearly. Or so Fabian seems to say it, since he's saying it in such a chill, nonchalant way. Like it really is just a regular day of school to him..
In fact, he can't help but ask: ]
Weren't yours like that?
no subject
No???? What?!
[ He thinks of them all having to go up against Miss Toriumi. The thought's pretty wild. ]
They just taught us math and history and boring shit. You're school is so much cooler! Teaching you the things that actually MATTER, man.
no subject
.. even if that is, technically, what school taught him. But he's presenting it as a joke right now! Haha, fighting your teachers is funny, right? It's fun when they turn out to be villains! ]
But-- nah, you're right. I would not want to sit through a class that's all about numbers. Instead I go to dance class! [ He sounds rather proud of this.. Fabian may even be puffing out his chest a little as he says it. ] But if it's so cool, then why don't you just up and move to our world, huh? You could go to Aguefort's too!
