He was one of many in a long line for the Order. And as far as Nero could tell at the time, you had just killed a man in cold blood and bat aside those meant to protect him like they were dolls. Then you looked at the young woman that he loved.

Though-

[Nero does feel Dante deserves a little bit of credit here.]

It turned out all the Holy Knights he killed had turned themselves into demons, and the human ones he just kicked across the room. So that was pretty impressive.

That you found your uncle impressive and "cool" in hindsight is not particularly relevant to whether or not Dante instigated something with you at the time.
