Attention Fellow People of Etraya,

I am Doctor Daniil Dankovsky, Bachelor of Medicine. As I understand it, few of you have seen a doctor lately. That simply won’t do! Please, don’t wait to get sick to establish care. I am situated in the hospital, ready to take consent forms and make updated medical histories. At least a few of you have unaddressed concerns, I just know it. The average person comes to see the doctor when it’s too late! Though we cannot die here, there is no reason to suffer unduly.

And if you are otherwise healthy, perhaps think of it as helping me out. In the event of an outbreak, it is far more helpful to have complete clinical pictures of the inhabitants. Especially, as I understand it, there are many biological differences in this population.

Please come visit me during my clinic hours, every day from 10am to 6pm.


[What Daniil really wants is to meet more of the unusual inhabitants of Etraya more quickly as well as conduct casual interviews of the sort of people who are slated to save the universe. But he can’t just say that completely outright.]

I mean a genuine thanks. Your service really went above and beyond an ordinary healer, you know. I’ve never climbed into bed with- [ some poor shivering addict] a patient to keep him warm.

[He looks at the floor. It’s hard to say and hard to hear from himself. He ends up looking irritated as a result, a blush rising on his face.]

No, no. It’s not a burden. [He presses his fingers to his temple. It’s so obviously a burden.]

You don’t even want an explanation, which baffles me.

[He sighs. How can someone not immediately know what they want? Their selflessness is making him self-conscious.]

[Helping people. the answer is immediate in their head, yet before it can pass their lips, seeing the vexed state of Daniil makes it clear that will only make him scoff. this is a very stilted echo of a conversation they had with E-Soul, and that such a chord is striking twice means Tristan needs to really give this better thought.

[A brilliant masterstroke that instantly appeals to Daniil’s ego. He instantly eases up. He even smiles.]

I think that’s a wonderful idea. You could shadow me like a medical student. Or I could teach you how to perform an exam and tell if someone is unwell?

[quickly building on that, pleased to have hit the proper chord:] And practice tending wounds without spellcraft. I know simple bindings for injuries out of combat or from hard labor, but there's much more I could be better at.

Yes, good stitching can save a life. I have done so many times in this way. Do you know how to hold a needle?

[Daniil is fully engaged, having allowed to be brought to his area of expertise and pride.]

[with a slight wryness, smiling crookedly:] You've seen me hold a needle, Daniil.

[Daniil laughs.]

That’s right. I have. Well… it’s a little different with skin. You have to use forceps. You can’t merely rotate a patient how you might a flower. And we were using my non-boilable catgut without no antiseptics. That wasn’t a very sterile procedure.

Unfortunately, I don’t think that patient made it.

[Daniil is back into his comfort zone.]

You don’t seem to really sleep. But do you eat? Or do you just drink honeysuckle nectar like the rest of the fae? [As he playfully looks at Tristan’s pointed ears.]

I think that 'patient' was lost because I caused you to collapse, not any failure on your part. [they're still smiling, despite the admission to something not smile-worthy. they even breathe a little, incredulous laugh at the suggestion.]

Well, I've never met a true fae myself, so I'll assume you're the expert. But yes, I do eat. I can't say I've ever had nectar before, unless it happened in my forgotten past. [which could ALSO be fae-based, but whatever man!!]

I wish I understood how that worked. You should tell me everything you know about it over- [He looks at a clock and his brows raise.] lunch.

I’ve never met a fae at all, I don’t think. What’s this about a “true fae”?
Are there false fae?

[Daniil pulls on his leather coat, significantly increasing his relative bulk before leading them out of the room.]
