Attention Fellow People of Etraya,

I am Doctor Daniil Dankovsky, Bachelor of Medicine. As I understand it, few of you have seen a doctor lately. That simply won’t do! Please, don’t wait to get sick to establish care. I am situated in the hospital, ready to take consent forms and make updated medical histories. At least a few of you have unaddressed concerns, I just know it. The average person comes to see the doctor when it’s too late! Though we cannot die here, there is no reason to suffer unduly.

And if you are otherwise healthy, perhaps think of it as helping me out. In the event of an outbreak, it is far more helpful to have complete clinical pictures of the inhabitants. Especially, as I understand it, there are many biological differences in this population.

Please come visit me during my clinic hours, every day from 10am to 6pm.


[What Daniil really wants is to meet more of the unusual inhabitants of Etraya more quickly as well as conduct casual interviews of the sort of people who are slated to save the universe. But he can’t just say that completely outright.]

A preventative is necessary then. Any idea if commercial animal drugs work on you?

No idea. Can your medical science magic tell you that?

Science magic? Excuse me, science magic? What gave you the idea I perform any magic at all?

I do science-science. With a microscope. And proof. And reasoning. Right here in reality.

How is that different from magic, though? Magic also has proof and reasoning and is right here in reality. I don't know what a microscope is, but it might have microscopes, too. I don't know magic myself, but smart people in my world were able to use magic runes to create a lightning rail that takes people places after studying it and making sure they could get the same thing to happen every time.

Enough! Enough. Come in for treatment if you must but quit it with this nonsense. I will concede that magic is real, as much as it pains me, but it does not contain the rigors and framework of science.

You can’t just believe a little harder to make something appear under the microscope. Anyway, are you so dense that you can’t just put words together? Micro means small. And scope means…

[Daniil stares at his HUD to wait for the reply.]

[Dwayne stares at his device for a solid ten minutes, thinking after a bit there would be a big reveal of what the word 'scope' means. When there isn't, he finally types a response.]

I don't know. What does scope mean?

Can you think of any other words that have scope in them? There are quite literally hundreds. Scope is a word itself, too, you know.

I saw a bottle of something called 'scope' at the convenience store here, but the shade of green unnerved me. Is it a drink? So 'microscope' would be a small drink?
