Edit: Additional features being considered based on feedback that were not in the poll include: (1) ease of use features for those less familiar with technology, (2) Wikipedia or an equivalent, (3) banning specific users from personal posts or communications.

Edit 2: Adding (4) storage and sharing for image, audio and video files, primarily for entertainment or educational purposes and (5) expansion of the library to include digital lending of those materials.

Seems suspicious. Nothing is entirely private unless it's somewhere without cameras or cell signal.

It's quite possible. I would argue in our current environment -- the unknown alien technological future that it is -- our understanding of cameras and cell signals is likely insufficient.

However, Aurora told me it is possible to conceal communications from her, so I'm willing to make the attempt.

How do we know that she can't bypass any privacy we're capable of establishing? And what of Echo?

[ he doesn't know much about computers, but as far as he can gather, encryption (which, suitably, is derived from a greek word for "hidden") is a lot like warding. useful, but only up to a point. there are always ways around it if you're creative enough. ]

We don't. I'm unconvinced real privacy is achievable, but since Aurora assured me it's possible to communicate beyond her reach, I'm willing to make the attempt.

I don't discount that, but I think it worth the attempt in case it is possible.

What is social media?

I considered working independently, but I thought it would be more expedient to work with her.

And I remain unconvinced it's possible to work outside of her purview regardless of her direct involvement.

I share other people's doubts that we have the ability to have any correspondence that's not under some sort of surveillance, technological or otherwise. But that doesn't mean it's not worth a shot. At some point, we'll find out whether that's the case or not.

I figure this network is all the social media we really need, since we're the only ones who live here? But I wouldn't mind being able to transfer audio files onto our communicators. Maybe we could even share the audiobooks and podcasts we've already got on our stuff from home.

I'll look into it. I'm more given to textual media myself, but I understand the appeal of audio. The library likely has some available on compact discs, in fact.

The idea behind advanced encrypted channels would be to have a way of communicating that our hosts cannot access. It remains to be seen if this is possible, but Aurora indicated to me that she thinks it is.

Social media is a bit like mingling at a party, except on the network, like this. With more casual conversation starters and personal details.

i don't disagree that we can't think that anything will be 100% secure or that something encrypted can't end up accessed, but we can still work with aurora and also make alternate options if that makes people feel better. it's always good to look at more options, and we have a lot of time to learn new things that might end up useful for missions... or anything else people want to try and do.

aurora can be fooling us but i don't know if it matters... either way, she gives us access to items and she's willing to accommodate to us. we should take what we can to make things work for us

[ He genuinely appreciates getting even small encouragement into his plans here. He hadn't expected everyone to be so skeptical that there was a point in trying at all. Surely they'd at least learn something from the attempt?

Or he would, rather, and he later decide what if anything to share more broadly. ]

I'm reserving judgment on my opinion of Aurora, but I'm taking into consideration that more than one credible source who's been here for some time has spoken positively of her. [ That being Connor and Accelerator. ] Whether she's limited by her programming in how honest she can be or how she can aid us is another matter, but we can at least try cooperation first.

I'm of course willing to make separate communicational channels as well. As you said, nothing wrong with more options.

It should be possible to include that with the request for sharing audiobooks and podcasts and the like, as it's essentially the same functionality.

I can't speak for what music will be available. You might have to request that yourself.
