She's a little busy as she lets Laura do her thing, mostly by checking the braids, seeing if they are still in one piece.)

Two out of three dads, yep. One you can definitely meet, the other one, well. I think maybe we don't tell him about you. He'll get a bit jealous I have such a cool friend.

[shoplifter]

[Whoa.]

... I did not know you could have three. I just had one.

[Trying to imagine the logistics of it and failing, over here. As she wipes her hands off on her shirt, she turns with a furrowed brow, looking mildly concerned.]

Dads shouldn't be jealous.

[jinxs]

(There is no sugarcoating things for kids for her, and considering this kid, probably she shouldn't either.

So, it's with a sigh she continues.)

Well. I have one... Biological dad, but that one is dead. Then, I had another dad... Who was kind of dead, so I got adopted again. So, three dads.

(But oof, that comment? Whether Jinx is a parent is debatable, but she is taking care of a child, and her thought lately is the thought of messing up. So, it pains her to admit, but...)

Dads and... Ugh, moms, they're kinda like us, their kids, you know, kid? So, they get scared, they get jealous, they get mad, and sad, and happy, and all the good stuff. So, yeah.

[shoplifter]

[She supposes that's true. Logan had certainly shown every color of the rainbow when it came to negative feelings. But then, she'd never say that her father was a good one; he just did the best he could.]

But they should still be fair.

If they're not, that's when you hit them in the nose.

Meh. One I can't reach his nose, the other one would die. Old, thin, wrinkly, like a tree in the desert, except, well, not a deeeeesert, more like-- hah, what am I saying, there aren't trees where we are from. Well, it is what it is, kiddo.

But, well. Are you always fair? I'm definitely not fair.

[Sounds like you just need to get more creative, Jinx. Laura punched her tall, old dad in the nose easily. 😁😁😁

But hmm. She has to really think about that.]

... I don't know. I've never thought about if I am fair or not.

Sometimes, things just are and aren't. Sometimes, you won't even know you weren't until way later. Cut dads some sort of slack, okay? And that comes from me.

(Who MURDERED some of them.)

That's like, very, very big brained advice! Maybe I'm getting actually good at this.

[shoplifter]

[She blows out a breath.]

... I had to already cut my dad a lot of slack. He wasn't very good at being one.

[But then, with some reluctance:]

But he didn't know he was a father until I showed up a week before I came here... so maybe he should have a little more slack.

So you were this grown. Yep, had no idea what he was doing, kid.

(She had been a choice, for both Vander and Silco. Not that Silco is father of the year, but he tried to be. He did what he knew to do, and he did what he could with what he had.

She has no idea what she is doing, too.)

Ugh, this is a bummer. Let's go do something fun.

[shoplifter]

[Oh...! Her face brightens, slight but immediate, with interest.]

What kind of fun?

[She has only just gotten used to the idea of the word, but the concept of fun has certainly not let her down yet.]

That's gonna depend on you. I can teach you how to shoot a gun, or we can do our nails, or just walk around until something catches our eye. How does that feel?

(It starts off strong and gets normal as it goes...)

[shoplifter]

[Well.......

A satisfied nod.]

It's good to not be alone. How do you... 'do nails'?

[jinxs]

(You know what, she actually doesn't do a lot of other people's nails, but that's fine, she can do it. She's pretty good. She got it.

So, she'll show her hand again, mismatched pink and blue.)

Like this. Just, uh, pick one of the two colors because that's really all I god, kid.

[shoplifter]

[Oh, bueno.

Looking at her own small fingernails, she contemplates with utmost sincerity.]

I would like both, too. I like both colors.

[They're cute. She would like to be a little cute, too.]

Alright. I'll do them just like mine, and bonus, I'll do your claws too. Enough space for some drawings, right?

(The girl literally heals from having her skin ripped apart in seconds, she can handle some chemicals from the polish.

... She'd probably do great in Zaun. Once they're back to her room, a chest opens and she finds the only two colors she owns.)

Pop'em, kiddo. What do you want me to draw?

[shoplifter]

[Laura shrugs after a moment — a sort of seems like an interesting idea kind of shrug — before her claws burst out of her knuckles once again. The sharp, ugly sensation of being stabbed through the arms by her own blades is always a weird one, but she's gotten used to it.

Holding them up, she looks invested.]

... I don't know. What do you think fits me?

[jinxs]

Let's do some stripes, and some flowers, and see how you feel? Woah, these are never not gonna be cool.

(First is gonna be pink, because she's that cute, but her hand has to be on a surface, and it cannot be anywhere near Jinx so there are no accidents. At least for the claws, she can sit next to Laura, much easier than the nails.

So, first claw gets the blue stripes.)

Never done that before, huh, kiddo?

[shoplifter]

[She shakes her head, looking down intently as Jinx works.

It's easy to be enraptured by things, when your life has been so devoid of them.]

We were not allowed things like this... We were not supposed to be... expressive.

Clothes or nail colors... or changing our hair. It was — 'completely restricted'.

[She remembers that was the words used toward the nurses, anyway.

They never thought she was listening as much as she truly was.]

Your life is a living nightmare. And trust me, mine was too, so I can tell you you win the nightmare awards.

(Which is concerning, in so many ways. The next claw gets little dotted flowers, pink petals, blue center, and she's struggling not to touch them, so instead she's moving Laura's entire hand so she can position them better.)

You're in luck, it just came a few... 10? Years later. I got you. What else do you wanna do?

[shoplifter]

[Her eyes widen comically, despite how calm the rest of her presents.]

I do not want the nightmares award.

[But she's immediately distracted by the follow-up.

Jinx seems like a reliable source, as far as Laura's concerned. So:]

What else do you think I should do?

The nightmare awards choose you, unfortunately, welcome, we are a very cozy club.

(They are not, but you know, it's fine. If anything, they people in Etraya as fucked up as Jinx or Laura have been nothing more of supportive, in her point of view.)

Get new clothes? Try makeup? Wanna dye your hair? I'm down.

[shoplifter]

[Eyes widen at each suggestion. Clothes have been a unique new experience she's gotten to explore more, but make-up...? Dyeing hair? Those are both things she only knows at a distance. A faraway concept never actually spoken of in the confines of a faux pediatric facility.]

I would like to try all of this.

[She reaches up to grab a lock of hair near the front of her hairline.]

This piece. I would like it pink. Or purple.

Deal, kid. You're in luck, I didn't do that kinda stuff with my old sis, but you got me, and I'm cool like that.

(Everything she knows, she learned alone, okay. Vi was in prison during her learning how to look edgy as fuck era, and she's already played that with Isha.
