okay so we're starting from scratch then

you'll need to bring some sort of pack to carry with you (backpack or duffle) and you'll have to bring that everywhere which is where it's the most different from camping, cause camping means you can leave stuff behind. since it's a maze you gotta get through, that's not really an option, right?

anyway, everything you bring with you should be to help you survive. things that don't contribute to that should be left behind, since you have to bring everything with you, and that just adds more weight and more weight means more sweat, etc.

water, food that stores well, some way to filter more drinking water, clothing that's meant only for skin cover or warmth because you don't always know the temperature and sun conditions, all purpose tools like a hammer or good knife, basic medical supplies

how is it different?

well you can always use a strainer of some sort to remove grit. some people use dense material that's still porous. even after getting the grit out, you might have to boil it to make it safe to drink if it's sitting water, though.
