what do you do when something you were told, turns out not to be true anymore? not true here? when you have more time than you thought. i didn't have to really think about the future. but here, i don't have to worry. i can plan. i mean, besides helping on missions.

I know that feeling. It can be a little overwhelming.

Planning is good. It helps to keep busy. What did you do back home, what interests do you have? Any hobbies? Perhaps you can start there.

planning. right. i'm not sure i really had any hobbies or anything. i did want to see that play? and i did like seeing the baby chocobos?

Well, then you should see a play. It's a good first step, at least.

What are chocobos?

[ornitiers]

i can see if they have some going here. even if it might not be 'i want to be your canary'. chocobos are these big birds, usually yellow, but they can be other colours, and you can ride on them or use them to help pull carriages. there are some here, i've been told.

If not here, then perhaps on some of these worlds we'll be visiting.

Are there? Beasts of burden, then— like horses? But not used for food like other poultry?

you think? maybe. it can't hurt to have a look. to ask. maybe there might be a different play.

something like that, i guess? but i'm not sure if people eat chocobos...?

Depends entirely on where we'll go next, of course, but there's always a chance. I haven't gotten around to checking if there are any troupes in Etraya.

You said you didn't really have hobbies, but do you have any other interests than theatre?

maybe i could ask sometime. someone might know.

i'm not sure if i would say it's an interest. i was just curious since a lot of people in alexandria were talking about going to see the play when i got there. but my ticket was apparently a fake. i'm not sure if i really have any interests or hobbies otherwise.

[Growing up in the swamps, there was not....exactly a lot of options. And then, when he left, he got caught up in everything with Zidane and Garnet. Vivi hasn't really had much of a chance to think about this sort of thing so much.]

Curiosity, then. Surely there's something. What did you like to do when you had some time to yourself? Or did you never have any time to yourself?

i'm not sure. when i got to alexandria, there was a play everyone was talking about. so i got a ticket. except it was a fake. i liked seeing the chocobos when we were traveling and saw some of the stables? the ranches? but we were pretty busy with....everything that kept happening, really.

You like animals, then? Perhaps that could be a good starting point. Surely there are some here.

i was told since there's chocobos here, a person named cloud is helping with them. so maybe i can ask them about helping him?

There you go— you should ask. I'm sure they wouldn't mind the help.

i guess it's worth a try. it can't hurt to ask, right? if it's okay that i'd help. i know some people seem to say that kids shouldn't work or something.

I don't see why they shouldn't. And I don't see why you couldn't, if you want to. Where I'm from, children are usually productive members of society from quite the young age.

[ Of course, that's because the people of her world are all dying off around thirty. ]

really? it seemed quite different on that mission. everyone was telling me to focus on school. on classes.

Education is important, of course, but that doesn't exclude contribution in other ways. Most children begin apprenticeships at age six where I'm from. Learning and working alongside the adults.

six? um, apprenticeships don't sound too bad. i guess it depends on where you're from? most of the kids i met back home were playing, not working.

You're right, of course. If you're from a place where children can afford to be children as long as possible, then that's a good thing. It's... sadly not a possibility, where I'm from.

oh. i mean. i'm not exactly human, so. i guess we age differently. it's complicated.

Did you get any good suggestions from everyone? Something you think you could use?

i think so. to make a list! i'm pretty sure it'd be a pretty long one. of things i haven't done. or foods i haven't tried. people keep saying about some that we didn't have back home. or at least, i hadn't had it before.
