what do you do when something you were told, turns out not to be true anymore? not true here? when you have more time than you thought. i didn't have to really think about the future. but here, i don't have to worry. i can plan. i mean, besides helping on missions.

[Being told he probably wouldn't live much longer than a year or so. And then Aurora reassured him that that wasn't the case. Vivi now has a lot to consider....]

you don't have to say. i know this sort of thing can be...a lot. personal.

It's okay. It's weird as hell to think about when you're a kid though, you know? We should get to think about different stuff.

[ornitiers]

is it weird? what should we think about instead?

Lots of stuff! School, video games, whether or not our friends really like us?

[ornitiers]

whether our friends really like us? what's a video game?

[Oh, heh. Vivi might be too young for real teenage angst like that yet. don't worry about that--]

It's like a board game, but you play it on a TV! Like [there's a pause... if Vivi doesn't know what a video game is, maybe she explains with the really old ones?] there's one where you ski downhill and have to avoid obstacles and a yeti. Or fighting games where you play against your friends!

oh. it sounds like fun?

[krtaps]

Video games are loads of fun! I can look around the city. Seems like there's just a lot of stuff laying around to find?

If I'd thought about it I'd have gotten some stuff in San Francisco, but consoles and stuff are pricey.

[ornitiers]

consoles? um. if you do find something, let me know! i like games!

[He means....like....jumprope....but sure. Video games are probably fun too?]

[Oh Vivi. She'll have to start him off with something fun and low-stakes, like Mario Party... or whatever equivalent to that she can find. Not Halo or anything scary like that.]

You bet! I'll start looking now. There's so many big empty buildings in this weird city... dome... sci-fi habitat place. One of 'em is bound to have a Wii or something in it. (That's one of the consoles you can play games on.)

[Some sort of Mario Party equivalent would probably be best. He has no clue about this.]

a wii? oh. so you use this wii to play games? i played jumprope and raced my friends back home, but i'm not sure that's what you mean with these games.

[krtaps]

Yeah! [She figures she can explain the exact ins-and-outs of how a video game console works when she finds one.] This is sort of like, you can pretend like you're racing cars or doing stuff in outer space, stuff you can't do in real life.

[there's a brief pause as something hits her.]

stuff that you couldn't do UP TILL GETTING HERE I GUESS

pretend. oh. i think i get it? sort of. it does sound pretty fun!

[krtaps]

It's a great thing to do on a rainy day, or to motivate yourself into actually doing your stupid homework. Not that we've got homework here I guess.

[ornitiers]

good. we did enough study in class at school. not that i don't want to learn and all, but. sometimes after school it was just nice to relax.

[krtaps]

yeah especially when you get to middle school and start having a different teacher for every subject, and they all think THEIRS is the most important. SUPER FRUSTRATING.

[ornitiers]

i guess a lot of subjects are important. but it would also depend, wouldn't it? on what job you wanted to do? but i guess kids might not know yet.

[krtaps]

Oh you bet. I still have no clue!

[Even if she hasn't had a whole lot of stuff DISTRACTING HER LIKE HECK from those questions the past few years and then the whole possibility of not making it that far, she didn't know! Beyond like, little-kid dream ideas.]

[ornitiers]

that's okay. i'm not sure what i want to do, either. so i'm making a list! maybe you can do something like that, too?

[krtaps]

Yeah, that's a good idea. I'm already kind of working on some stuff about Etraya that my friends'd need to know if they ever turn up here, I can make bucket-list stuff too.

oh! a list about this place and what people should know? that's a good idea! in case our friends show up and need it.
