what do you do when something you were told, turns out not to be true anymore? not true here? when you have more time than you thought. i didn't have to really think about the future. but here, i don't have to worry. i can plan. i mean, besides helping on missions.

[Being told he probably wouldn't live much longer than a year or so. And then Aurora reassured him that that wasn't the case. Vivi now has a lot to consider....]

In some ways, that feeling's never going to go away. I still have it. But use it as motivation, not self-denigration. It's not that you're 'supposed' to be better now, it's that you want to be better today than you were yesterday, and better tomorrow than you were today. Gives you something to aim for.

You got it. We all started at the bottom. But no one climbed higher without wanting to.

Thanks. I'm mostly just grumpy because I've been shooting for a goal for a long time and haven't succeeded yet.

I have some help, but it hasn't gotten us anywhere yet. Unfortunately, experienced and capable help is rare to come by, and most everyone has their own things they need to worry about.

i guess that's true. people have their own things they are dealing with and working towards. but that doesn't mean you can't still help each other. support each other.

If our paths go the same way for long enough, and don't compromise either of our goals. It's harder than you'd think to manage that when you're dealing with some pretty nasty stuff.

Undead bodysnatchers, demigods, high-ranking demons and devils, the genie-and-company sorts in the City of Brass... stuff like that.

Yep. You got it. That's the sort of thing me and people like me are trying to handle. So you can imagine it's not easy to get distracted, or even find other people who are able to help.
