[Daniil posts live from a café near the museum. He has no patience for typing responses, and his own visage should explain why. His nose has recently been broken and reset. He looks exhausted and irritated, but he has a duty.]

I need a couple people to come down to the café near that absurd museum with the sewn up fruit exhibits. Bring a stretcher, we have a patient who could use some more urgent treatment.

[From somewhere offscreen, a voice that is distinctly not Daniil’s states:] This Etrayan shot me in an attempt to get information I did not possess. I would appreciate his removal from my presence.

Now- That’s not true at all. That is not the reason you were stopped. [Daniil now regrets making a video, but what’s done is done. ]

I-I'm not scared. I'm angry!

All you've done is cause more problems. Even if Castor had the answer, why would he tell you or anyone else anything now? And h-how do you think other survivors are going to react when they find out you shot someone like this? Do y-you really think that's going to help them in trusting Etrayans?

You fucked up, and you won't take any responsibility for it.

H-How can you say that to me?

[Exasperated does not even begin to cover it. Grace can feel hot, angry tears welling up in her eyes, and she is immediately grateful this isn't a video call. God only knows that this asshole would probably try to belittle her for that as well.]

I-I-I've been trying to help everyone in whatever way I can. [Not that Grace is of the opinion that it has been all that much in the end, and she would be the first to acknowledge that. The circumstances are what they are, and no matter how many people she tries to help or protect, the city is still in the state it's in. But she still refuses to take the implication he's making that she somehow just stood back and did nothing this entire time.] E-E-E-Even before everything happened, I tried reasoning with Castor. And I have been nothing b-b-but grateful to the Etrayans since they arrived. I haven't taken anything more than I need, a-and I've been trying to help keep the camp running.

[It may start to be obvious that there are angry tears happening now. Try as she might, Grace cannot keep it entirely out of her voice and there is a quiet sniffle as she angrily wipes at one of her eyes.]

A-All I'm hearing from you is s-someone who made a decision for e-everyone without thinking about anyone other than himself.

[ He MUCH prefers to use text on these things, but Grace is so worked up that he doubts she'd catch this if he just messaged her. So, despite his incredibly heavy lisp, he interjects with far more sympathy in his voice than he usually reserves for anyone: ]

Grace. Listen to what you're saying. You tried to reason with Castor, and we didn't get anything new from it. A lot of people did, and some of them are in that pile, right now. We had six months to get somewhere, and it's reduced us down to five people left.

He made one, non-lethal call. And now we have a clue to where we need to put the new AI.

Sollux... [She sounds more hurt than comforted in just saying his name alone.] Y-you can't be seriously agreeing with him?

Castor never cared about us, Grace. He literally left people behind on a mission before, and we never went back for them. The Etrayans did.

Castor's holding back information we need to get this whole thing over with, and for what? So he can walk around, mourning some dead robots instead of real people? I know if I was in that corpse pile right now, my spirit watching all of us stand around getting upset about one guy shooting Castor in the foot instead of finding a way to get the new AI up and running, I'd be so pissed!

[Nope. That's it. Whatever modicum of composure Grace was holding onto cracks and crumbles as Sollux takes it a step too far.]

Wh-Who the hell is just standing around, Sollux!? No one that's been left here h-h-has been just sitting around doing nothing! Not me. Not you. Not e-e-even Constantine! No one.

The Etrayans have skills a-and resources we haven't had! W-we don't need to stoop to e-enforcer tactics to make headway o-on this. But i-if you really think this narcissistic asshole has the right idea, then I-I was wrong a-about you.

A-and if this is how Etraya handles their problems... I-I-I don't want any part of it.

Grace...

[ He starts upset, guilty, regretful. About 0.2 seconds ready to apologize for upsetting her.

But instead, his mood flips.
]

Then maybe don't have any part of it! Do you know what they have that we don't? Time! That's it!

I've seen twice now what happens when you run out the clock, and it just becomes one big clusterfuck of pointing fingers for group problems until it dwindles down to unsalvageable odds! If I thought Daniil was really a threat to anyone here, I'd put him down myself!

[There's a long pause of silence from Grace.]

Th-then I'm glad Dr. Dankovsky could sh-show you the way, S-S-Sollux. S-Sorry for leading y-you down the wrong path, then.

[She doesn't actually believe that, but she does not know what else to say. Grace doesn't think she should have to explain to anyone that torture is never the answer.]

[The line goes dead as Grace disconnects. She removes the earpiece, tossing it down on the bed in her borrowed personal pod at Fort Badass before opening the shutter and climbing out of it with her backpack.]

My name is Grace. Not girl.

[This is probably the firmest Grace's voice has been thus far.]

You can't convince me you did this for anyone else. A-All you've talked about is yourself. E-Even now, all you care about is being right a-and the one to have fixed the problem. You don't care about me or anyone trying to survive o-or the people who've died.

Unfortunately, I've met a doctor where that wasn't the case, Dr. Dankovsky. [And sure, he may not be as bad as Dr. Gideon. Grace can grant him that much, there is still a single-minded approach both men (could Dr. Gideon even be called that) take.] Wh-what you say doesn't match with w-what you've done. Or h-how you're trying to rationalize it i-i-into some screwed up sense of righteousness.

[Grace offers no response. The line disconnects instead.]
