what do you do when something you were told, turns out not to be true anymore? not true here? when you have more time than you thought. i didn't have to really think about the future. but here, i don't have to worry. i can plan. i mean, besides helping on missions.

I will tell you this right now: it doesn't matter too much, actually.

We don't know what tomorrow will bring, ever. Everything could change. We could all die at any moment. Not to be too negative, but it is possible.

So you live a life without regrets to the best of your ability, right? All this news does is maybe change what your regrets might be. So that's where you start.

i know. i tried to remind myself of that back home. to make the most of every day.

without regrets? what if i don't know if there's something i might regret?

Same as you were doing. You make the best choice you can with what you do know or can figure out.

The tricky thing is not regretting your choice to not regret! Example: there's a lot of different things I could be doing right now, but I chose something else instead. Will I regret not doing some of those things? Maybe, who knows. But I don't regret what I chose, even if it means some regrets later.

I'm a warrior, not a priest, so I'm not good at saying these sort of things in a pithy helpful way. Sorry if this is more confusing than anything.

oh. i guess that's true. i guess i didn't think about it that much. but no, i think i get it. what you're trying to say. it's not that confusing.

Maybe I learned a thing or two about describing things after all this time. That's nice to imagine.

Of course, all of this is in context of "oh by the way the multiverse is dying, so here you are to prove your world's worth", which does put a bit of a cloud over it all.

just a little, yeah. but, i want to help if i can. if i'm the only one from home here, then. that means everyone else, my friends, they're relying on me to prove myself. so i have to do my best!

I'll trade you a little if I can, since traveling to other worlds is a thing I've done. Actually, you've done me a favor already by telling me Aurora was helping you. I hear mixed things about her but I don't know how much of that is people just being angry about the situation or her involvement in it.

oh. i don't think she seems so bad. i guess that's just me, but she has helped me. i can't say for everyone else.

People don't mind shooting the messenger, especially when the messenger might have some culpability.

So getting back to your original question, what were you doing before you came here?

and aurora is the messenger? because she is who we usually first talk to here?

i was helping my friends. we had just fought to stop kuja. my friend zidane went down to check on him after. that's the last thing i remember. before i came here. i guess, here, i can still help? i mean, by doing the missions. try to help keep them, my home, safe? i'm just trying to think of what else i could do, besides that. i haven't really had to think about it before. plan like that.

Yeah, she's the one who met us all, right? That's what I hear. So she's the one who got to tell us all the news.

I should start by saying we don't know what makes a world 'worthy' of saving. So all you can do at that point is do what you think would demonstrate a world is worth saving, and do that. Which I don't think you'll have too much of a problem with because you're worried about it in the first place, which means you care.

Oh, a caster! I'm guessing not wizard or cleric, so sorcerer? Warmage?

[Wizard is impossible because of the time involved to become one; less than a year of life doesn't permit the extensive study and practice that wizardry requires. And a total lack of any sort of religious mention associated with the spells, or even in general, rules out cleric. So he must be one of those gifted with magic in the blood and a knack for producing it.]

i'm a black mage. i guess it's probably kind of like a wizard since i can cast spells? i'm not sure on the specifics though.

[He was created to fight. So it isn't surprising that he has an affinity for offensive spells as a result. Or ones that can impact his opponents. That sort of thing comes in handy with having an army of black mages just like him.]

Defining terms for you then. A wizard studies and memorizes many spells but has less power to cast them in a given period. A sorcerer develops spells innately from their nature, so has a few spells they can cast repeatedly. A warmage is basically a sorcerer who knows a lot more spells, but only combat-related ones.

[Although the wizard she'd worked with had been... well, let's just look at those definitions and then say he was a wizard who only knew combat spells. Which is why she rarely mentions his contributions.]

oh. i guess maybe a warmage sounds more like me? i'm a black mage, so the spells i know are mostly offensive magic for battle. since we were made to fight.

We had a warmage in our number during the last half of our battles at home, so I know how useful they can be. And hey, I already like you better than her, so you're definitely a good companion as far as I'm concerned.
