so new people showing
hi everyone! I'm Kate, or Hawkeye
there's a lot of younger people in the mix as well
before the adults get involved and start poo pooing the idea of *kids* saving the world
I'm sure mine isn't the only one that's been saved by the younger gen a time or two

anyway
I've found a building here that is basically mine from home
my home
it's marked as Bishop Publishing

any teens or 20 somethings need a place to hangout
it's open
there's several games, an archery range, gym, and a lot of other things that can be used to either train or just relax

[address of building here]

feel free to join us
it's all good

Wait, you mean actual games?

I was expecting Monopoly or Candyland, but colour me intrigued.

This is a good idea, by the way.

Thanks, but let's save that for a power outage and/or total desperation.

You know, I always wanted to see what the inside of a Wards headquarters looked like. The versions in TV shows never seemed that accurate.

Hey, let me have my fanboy moment. I'm hanging out with real superheroes. If there's an upside to all of this, it's that.

I promise to keep the gawking to a restrained minimum.

You're not boring.

But seriously. I'll be cool. I'm mostly showing up to monopolize your gaming system.

Sure. As long as you're prepared to get schooled.

While you studied the bow, I studied the controller.

[He was lurking but as the resident "ancient times" aficionado, Marik feels the need to chime in. You take pride in such weird things, Marik.]

There's nothing wrong with board games. They can be equally as entertaining as electronics.

Oh, can they?

Any examples?

Senet, an ancient Egyptian game, or even the Roman game Latrones. Both require a keen mind for strategy.

It's quite interesting and exciting to see how your opponent will combat your moves and vice versa.

[personal profile] equivo 2024-04-28 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
There are board games and board games. The ones I was talking about aren't so much about strategy as they are about psychological warfare. Not the fun kind of psychological warfare, either. The boring type.

But you're right. I'll concede that. Some games played on boards are better than others.
thetombkeeper: (038)

[personal profile] thetombkeeper 2024-04-28 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
There's a boring type? I wasn't aware.

But I'm glad you can see they aren't as mind-numbing as you initially stated.

[He's not aware of... the more childish games of nowadays. Someone needs to introduce him to Monopoly and watch him rage.]
equivo: (how'd you know that's just what i like?)

[personal profile] equivo 2024-04-28 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Count yourself lucky, and if anyone tries to rope you into a game of Monopoly, know that person wishes you ill.

I play Go and chess. I think they're in the same line as the games you were talking about. If we ever end up with an afternoon to kill, maybe we could organize a board game night that doesn't suck.

Candyland? You were expecting a wild time.

Let me know if she's got Blastomatic 3000.

The exhilarating fun of playing a game where the outcome is fixed as soon as the deck is shuffled.

Will do. I've never heard of it, but I'm guessing...farming simulator?

Retro first-person shooter, actually.
equivo: (pic#17106069)

[personal profile] equivo 2024-04-27 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
No, seriously. Candyland has a fixed outcome every time. The winner is determined by the order of the cards being drawn. You can't do anything to change progression across the board after the game starts. It's just taking turns until someone reaches the end.

So much for my turnip rearing dreams. How does it compare to Doom?
mostdangerousbird: (010 meet me more than halfway up)

[personal profile] mostdangerousbird 2024-04-27 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Now I want to play Candyland.

It's been ages since I played it. It's a console game, so no mods or piping in your own tunes. I guess that means Doom wins.
equivo: (never had an issue)

[personal profile] equivo 2024-04-27 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
You want to play the game that's not actually a game?

Doom generally does. Still. It sounds interesting.

This may be getting ahead of myself, but I wonder if there's a way to tie consoles into the network. If more of them show up, maybe we could get some online multiplayer going.

[personal profile] mostdangerousbird 2024-04-27 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I want to try to beat the game that’s not actually a game. For science.

We probably could. Have you seen any computer stores? I’m pretty good with home networks.
equivo: (mama raised me right)

[personal profile] equivo 2024-04-27 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
The only way to do that would be rigging the deck. Which I don't have any ethical objections to, but you are aware is cheating, right?

I haven't so far. One of several conspicuously missing amenities. Not that I'm complaining about the free portable platforms we've got, but it'd be nice to have a desktop.
